I wrote the first part of this yesterday after weighing myself in the am…things were a little different this AM but it’s still relevant

I’m struggling right now with the whole weight loss thing. I’ve hit a plateau and have not been able to break thru it (hence the lack of friday check ins). Partly because, even though I’m 10lbs heavier then I’d like to be, I seem to be carrying that 10lbs pretty well so on most days I’m okay with how I look. To be honest, even at 125lbs I have had my fair share of feeling frumpy days. At least now, I have a beautiful reason to snap me out of the frumpy zone – Noah. My body is what it is because of him and I’m okay with that. I would and will do it again in a heartbeat for another little gem like him!

Then there’s the other part of me though that nags me about becoming complacent in my new body…that this mentality is sure to add up over the years and before I know it I’m to a point where I’m not happy at all (and have a long way back to a happy weight). It’s just so easy to fall back into old habits. So I’m conflicted. So far complacency is winning….I really need to flip that around…

on to today…

Today’s weigh in was a bit better than the last few, although, up until yesterday it was the same as it’s been the last few weeks (133.6). This morning it was 132.5 – such a big swing is most certainly water weight but..it’s downward trending so I can only complain a little:) Hopefully I can keep with that trend. I dusted off my road bike and pumped up the tires and have every intention of using this time off to get some riding in….we’ll see if that happens….

Both of the jobs that I’m waiting on have gyms at their facility, is it bad that I may base my decision on which to go with on the quality of their gym??:)

PS. i realize that I meant to go on about eating right and healthy snacks and my own thoughts hijacked the post and had it’s own ideas. I guess I’ll talk about that later.

Okay, now we’re really starting to feel like fall around here and this summer shape up has taken longer than I ever imagined it might – I think it’s time for a name change – Operation bye bye spare tire… the Pittsburgh Half Marathon is 246 days away:)

This week I finally (FINALLY) managed to make some quinona (twice!). It’s actually pretty good. I was making it with chicken stock and paired it with stronger tasting foods like a curry chicken and a pork tenderloin and it worked perfectly. DH even ate it with minimal complaining:) I drank more water than I had before but need to continue to do so. Lastly I went for a run two days in a row and started to feel that lower leg pain again so I need to start out slower and as soon as I’m gainfully employed again I’m going to pay a visit to a runners store to be fitted. I think the relaxation of the ligaments that happened during my pregnancy has affected the mechanics of my feet causing the pain ( i tried both my old shoes that never gave me problems before and my new shoes – no difference).

Getting out for a walk, ride, or run is more important now since I gave up my gym membership. I had them pause it for the time being but depending on where I get a job I may need to cancel it outright (some of the positions i’m looking at are more than 30 min from the gym). Anyways…on to the stats…

Next, Stats by the week:
Week 1 – 142lbs (7 weeks postpartum)
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.
Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)
Week 15.5 – 136.5 – taken on Monday (hence the .5 in 15.5 weeks) NOTE: this is on a new scale which disagrees with my old scale so we’re kind of resetting a bit.
Week 19 – 136.0
Week 22 – 133.6 – thank you comfort eating…
Week 23 – 133.4 – well…a little progress is something:)

and finally, the Goals this week are:
– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself
– walk with Noah every other evening

So, I know I’ve been MIA…I managed to get the pics of the camera from this past weekend so we’re one step closer to a fun post with pics:) As for the shape up related news, this week has been a tough one. I’ve been doing a bit of comfort eating and my numbers reflect that. I’m thinking it’s mostly water weight because it took almost an hour this AM for the indentations on my legs from sitting on the afghan to go away.

I failed on the goals too…but I did get to the gym twice:) Anyways…enough excuses…back on the wagon next week (for as many times as i’ve fallen off you’d think I’d have more bruises…well, I guess the weight is enough of a reminder…)

Week 21 – 132.5 – okay, we’re on a roll here!
Week 22 – 133.6 – thank you comfort eating…

and finally, the Goals this week are:
– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself
– Finally try that power house grain Quinona! (yes, this is a repeat….it’s sitting on the counter reminding me every day)
– walk with Noah every other evening, work up to a light jog.

Now, a quick update on the job front. It’s been a busy week! I’ve had a number of phone screens that have led to two in person interviews scheduled for next week! I had a critique of my resume and have alot of work to do on it to improve it so I’ve been working thru that (I can never remember what I did when it comes to those things…ugh). I have been doing a bit of freelance writing for a friend of mine and may have some additional freelance stuff coming up to help fill the time (and the money gap). Aside from all that I’ve been getting my craft on daily! It’s been a nice change to be able to just sit down and sew for a few hours and not worry about work.

So, still excited about the opportunities ahead of me and can’t wait to see what pans out! Until then though, I’m enjoying my time off!

More progress despite some setback and a very busy schedule. I’m encouraged:) We’re refinancing the house so we spent most of our evenings this week cleaning like we’ve never cleaned before. We wanted the house to show perfectly so the appraiser gave it the best marks he could. It worked – sort of – but that’s another story. Due to this cleaning frenzy I didn’t have a ton of time to work out but I think the cleaning in itself was activity enough!

So first, mixed results on the goals:
– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself: I did better this week but not perfect. I’ve added coffee into the diet too just to survive!
– Try one new healthy recipe with Quinona in it!….I looked one up yesterday, does that count??
– Stretch every night and try to get my legs back in order…yea, failed at this one. By the time I got to the end of the night I was spent
– walk with Noah every evening, work up to a light jog…we got in one walk and one bike ride.. plus LOTS of cleaning

Week 20 – 134.5
Week 21 – 132.5 – okay, we’re on a roll here!

and finally, the Goals this week are:
– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself
– Finally try that power house grain Quinona!
– walk with Noah every evening, work up to a light jog.

I’m finding that my eating habits are changing with all this calorie counting -for the better! I’ve managed to keep the junk out of the house and replace them with lots of fruits and veggies to munch on. When I do slip I can accommodate that slip by eating better later. I don’t deprive myself of snacks, I just find ones that are lower in fat and calories like 100 calorie Skinny Cow Fudge bars or Jello with fat free Cool Whip.

Anyways…I’ll leave you with this little treat – Noah saying good morning.

I was trying to get a little work done before we headed to daycare but his obsession with my keyboard made that impossible so we decided to play with the webcam instead:)

Aug 202010

Okay, this is a little late because I had to pay homage to our 5 year anniversary:)

There’s been progress this week despite having some pain in my legs that kept me from being really active (or going to the gym at all). I’ve been SUPER careful with what I’m eating and have been sticking to just fruits and veggies and protein.

I met some of my goals but others suffered because of my legs…
1. continue drinking the water -yup! got that one working! I’ve been putting lemons, limes, or cucumbers in the water to switch it up. I also bought club soda to try somethign different. Sparkling is refreshing!
2. get 1 more serving of fruits and veggies a day into my diet – yup, worked that one too! On some days I even got 2 or 3 more servings thanks to amazing fresh cantaloupe, strawberries, and blueberries!
3. go to boxing twice this week – FAILED:( The pain in my lower legs is really hindering doing anything. I did do a bunch of ab work most nights and some squats but anything else was too painful.
4. run 4 miles for the week (likely in 2 2 mile runs). – FAILED:( But I did get some walking in…and heavy housework which burns calories:)

Stats by the week:
Week 1 – 142lbs (7 weeks postpartum)
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.

– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself
– Try one new healthy recipe with Quinona in it!
– Stretch every night and try to get my legs back in order
– walk with Noah every evening, work up to a light jog.

Let’s see how we can do with this!

Aug 132010

I need to get this out quick since I’m running late in packing the car for yet another weekend trip…we’re booked clear thru the end of Sept at this point…:)

There as been progress this week although I was scared, as of last night the scale had still not budged. Never weigh yourself at the end of the day – I swear you’re holding like 2lbs of water weight! Anyways…we’re back on track. Two boxing workouts, a biking and a running work out plus very (I stress VERY because it was unlike me at all…so proud:) ) sensible eating.

Stats by the week:
Week 1 – 142lbs (7 weeks postpartum)
Week 2 – 138lbs – woohoo!
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 6 – 139.5 – okay, .5 lbs! I attribute that to the fact that i’m putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat right??:)
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.
Week 10 – 134 – 1 lb…i’ll take it!
Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)
Week 14 – 132 – still not believing it but until i get a new scale, we’re going with it:)
Week 15.5 – 136.5 – taken on Monday (hence the .5 in 15.5 weeks) NOTE: this is on a new scale which disagrees with my old scale so we’re kind of resetting a bit.
Week 18 – 137.6 – thank you beach…
Week 19 – 136.0

The Goals this week are:
– continue drinking the water
– get 1 more serving of fruits and veggies a day into my diet
– go to boxing twice this week
– run 4 miles for the week (likely in 2 2 mile runs).

Let’s see how we can do with this!

Aug 102010

So I wasn’t around on Friday to do this for real and honestly I debated on whether to do this at all this week considering my number but alas..that’s why I’m putting this up there…to motivate my butt to keep working on it. I didn’t plan for it to be a struggle but it has been. My motivation is waning and the scale number creeping up doesn’t help at all!

So, without further adieu…137.4

That’s up a few lbs from my last weigh in and despite running on the beach while on vaca, water retention and good food have gotten the best of my progress.

I’m recommitting myself this week and even made it to the gym yesterday (every bone in my body hurts now). Plus, I signed DH and myself up for a half marathon in May. We have some time but at least I have some reason to get my tush out there and lace up my running shoes. This strategy worked well two years ago when we did our first half, let’s hope it works as well this time round – having Noah is an added challenge.

Plus, I stopped by the grocery store for more fruits and veggies and healthy/low cal snack items. I’m enjoying a bowl full of grapes at the moment – a step forward. I’m trying to remind myself that I don’t need chips or even pretzels and that grapes, strawberries and cucumbers are better…..repeat to myself…”125…125…125….” (my goal weigh for those who didn’t catch on)

Crossing my fingers that Friday’s scale reading is better…

Jul 302010

So there’s been no change this week. I have started getting more h20 (about a Brita pitcher full every day) and I’ve been careful with what I eat but that’s only allowed me to maintain. I only managed to work out twice this week and it was just a quick run and a quick bike ride. Work is getting in the way of the gym right now. Hopefully that will stop and I can get back to it…

This coming week we’ll be sunning and funning at the beach and DH has designs on early morning runs with the pup in the sand so we’ll see what happens. We’re cooking at the house rather than eating out every night so that will help in controlling the calories. Being that I won’t be by a scale on Friday though, this post will be late next week (probably Sunday or Monday morning…) However, have no fear – I will post it at some point:)

Week 16 – 135.8 – if we look at Monday’s weight and today’s weight I’m doing good…almost a whole pound in 5 days
Week 17 – 135.8 – no change…hmph…

The Goal this week is to continue to try for more water and 3 morning runs on the beach.

Okay, on to making friends!

Hello to all you new folks! I hope you find something here that you’ll want to come back over and over again for! This blog was started to keep the fam up to date on my first pregnancy and has continued after my little Noah was born. Topics range from smitten momma ramblings to hard hitting pieces about 529 plans and the like (haha…hard hitting..maybe not but it’s fun to dream that I could actually write something that could be considered hard hitting) and has a smattering of photography (of my little man of course) thrown in for fun.

Me? I’m an almost a 30 something (gah!) working mamma who would love to ditch her mortgage in order to stay home with little man but sadly bought when the housing market was at its peak and probably couldn’t even break even in the sale. Some day I dream of leaving the corporate world to do something more creative – like photography or crocheting!:) But for now amuse myself with hobby photography and blogging.

Anywho…glad to e-meet you and I hope you leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

Okay folks, we’re back in business…well, the fact that I’m home and near a scale that is….motivation and weight loss not so much…Ugh…I’m just having a hard time getting myself motivated to do anything (although I squeezed out a few squats and sit ups at 12:00 last night…but only after DH said my legs have come along way since I was pregnant and that he’d classify them as “hot” again:)). I’m trying to watch my calories but I’m soooo freaking hungry all the time that all I do is graze (no, i’m not pregnant!). I really need to get my butt back to the gym so that this grazing won’t affect me as much. For now I’m trying to sate my hunger with water (at least that’s been the MO the last two days) and just fight fight fight my will to munch.

So, the 132 from two weeks ago was a fluke…bad scale. My new scale (which agrees with the gym’s scale) puts me a bit heaver than I’d originally thought so we’re resetting a bit. I also shortened my stats list a bit and showed every two weeks (it was really getting long:)) In another month or so I’ll probably just show start and now….

Week 15.5 – 136.5 – taken on Monday (hence the .5 in 15.5 weeks) NOTE: this is on a new scale which disagrees with my old scale so we’re kind of resetting a bit.
Week 16 – 135.8 – if we look at Monday’s weight and today’s weight I’m doing good…almost a whole pound in 5 days

The Goal this week is to continue to try for more water and get my butt back to the gym (or at least work in some activity to my day – we’re picking up the new bike trailer for Noah this weekend so maybe that means we can do a few after-work rides with him).

It’s been a long 4 day week I’ll tell ya. Never thought Friday was going to get here. Work is picking up again (at my request, I was starting to get bored) and Noey’s on a 2am party kick lately. I’m thinking it’s a growth spurt because all that boy does right now is eat! I’ve started him on more solids just because he’s going to bleed us dry with the amt of formula he’s throwing back! Later I’ll post pics of his first tastes of squash (we’ve been doing rice and oatmeal here and there since the doc gave us the go ahead but he just doen’t like it – would you? it tastes like cardboard!). Anywho…the real point of the post is checking in and making friends. I’m stuck at 69 followers and while that’s a fun number and all, I’d like to see it grow just a little bit – we’re family friendly here!

First to the shape up check in – time to buy a new scale! I stepped on this this AM and it read 138! In complete disbelief I tried again – 135…I was shrinking before my very own eyes. I tried again and again 133.5, 132. And that’s where it stuck – 132…not quite believing it but I’ll take it:)

Week 7 – 137.5 – woohooo! Now, we fluctuated a bit this week but as of this AM this is where I’m at!!
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.
Week 9 – 135 – With no exercise all week I’ll take a steady number over what it could have been
Week 10 – 134 – 1 lb…i’ll take it!
Week 11 – 133.5 which is pretty good since I only made it to the gym once this week
Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)
Week 13 – 134.5 – Yikes…but it’s bound to happen!
Week 14 – 132 – still not believing it but until i get a new scale, we’re going with it:)

The Goal this week is to continue to try for more water and to also inject some more health veggies and fruits into the diet. I know I don’t get enough on a regular basis.

Okay, on to making friends! As I said above, we need to get past that 69 mark in my friend count please:) I’m trying a different bloggy hop not because they others were back but because I see the same folks over and over on there and I’d like to spread the love:)

Well…it was bound to happen…I gained:( I could list every excuse in the book but bottom line, I didn’t achieve my goal this week. I only made two workouts and was pretty lazy with the calorie counting. I did drink more water but not as much as I wanted.

Sad part is, I knew all week that a gain was coming – i just wasn’t as motivated or diligent as I’ve been in the past. Chalk it up to being sick, having a sick dog, and a baby who didn’t want to sleep. Even my favorite boxing instructor asked where I’d been…

The goal this coming week is to get back track…the holiday is going to make this challenging. I must control myself at those BBQ’s where soda and chips abound! I need to find ways to work out even when I can’t make the gym…time to break out the Yoga and Pilates DVD’s again.

Stats by the week:
Week 1 – 142lbs (7 weeks postpartum)

I know I say this every week but holy cow…I’ll continue to say it. Life with an infant really makes your weeks fly by…

As always, two things on the agenda today! Checking in and making friends!

This week was better workout wise – I managed Monday, Wed, and will go today. Next week I’ll start to put yoga/pilates back in. I’m still a bit sore from overdoing it on MONDAY! My hamstrings just aren’t the same..haha. Eating wise i didn’t do as well. I’ve stopped counting calories figuring I have a decent handle on what is what but I think I need to go back to watching more carefully…weight loss has slowed.

The goal this coming week is to get back on the calorie counting wagon and drink more water – I realized I’m not really drinking a whole lot (although, I’m not drinking much of anything – no soda or anything…odd..).

Stats for this week:
Week 1 – 142lbs
Week 2 – 138lbs – woohoo!
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 6 – 139.5 – okay, .5 lbs! I attribute that to the fact that i’m putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat right??:)
Week 7 – 137.5 – woohooo! Now, we fluctuated a bit this week but as of this AM this is where I’m at!!

Week 10 – 134 – 1 lb…i’ll take it!

Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)

Okay, now to making new friends!!

New Friend Fridays

Back in business this Friday with both a summer shape up check-in and a bloggy hop or two in hopes of making new friends!

This week back working out consistently was rough. Between over doing it early in the week and meetings later in the week that overran my work out time it was tough to get it all in! I kinds slacked on the calorie counting too although I didn’t go overboard so I still managed to loose .5lbs…definitely need to step it up next week! Plus I need to get a new scale…when I first stepped on I was 137 and I just couldn’t believe that so I tried again and I was 133.5….i’m not super confident in its abilities any longer so it’s time to find a new one – off to Target I go (oh darn…such torture!)

Okay, on to making new friends!!!

Round and round we go and back to Friday we are….

This week I’m only doing the summer shape up. Sick baby prevents me from doing the bloggy hops this time round. Maybe next week!

So, for accountability sake we did better this week. I managed to get back on the workout horse – sort of. Noah came down with a virus yesterday so I missed my workout and will miss it today too for the same reason (hubs is on deadline and not around a lot right now). This weekend we’re away but I’m determined to at least get a few walks in there and not indulge myself at Noah’s reception tomorrow (we’re doing a reception for his baptism for all the folks that couldnt make the trek to western PA for the actual thing). For now we’re down another pound! Woohoo!!!

2 more pounds to 10lbs lost! Then I have another 10 or so to go after that….slowly but surely! Maybe I’ll be able to get my wedding rings back on for good in another 5 lbs!

Okay, now that did come faster than the others – 4 day work weeks (turned 3 due to a nasty sinus infection) really skew your perception on the week!  Anyways…two orders of business as usual – accountability and making new friends.

I like to be accountable first so here goes:

This week was a total loss.  Noah’s been fighting somethign which finally turned into a sinus infection and lucky me caught it so on Saturday evening a little tickle in my throat turned into a full blown upper respiratory infection.  Knocked me on my can (and I’m still recovering).  So, needless to say I didn’t work out at all…heck, I barely made it off the couch for the first few days of this thing.  The only bounus is that I wasn’t really all that hungry so I was able to control my eating and account for the lack of activity in my caloric intake so all was not lost.

This was a hold steady week – no wins, no losses…

Stats for this week:
Week 1 – 142lbs
Week 2 – 138lbs – woohoo!
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 6 – 139.5 – okay, .5 lbs!  I attribute that to the fact that i’m putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat right??:)

Good golly these Fridays keep coming faster and faster…I feel like I just wrote this post for last week! Anyways…two orders of business as usual – accountability and making new friends.

I like to be accountable first so here goes:

This week I tried a bunch of new things and they seem to be working! I did a mid week weigh in and couldn’t believe my scale so I waited until boxing to use theirs (it has to be spot on right? they’re weighing these guys to match them up with other fighters…it’s all official and stuff..) and if my shoes do indeed weigh 3 lbs then my scale at home was right!

This week I added Yoga Burn on my off days plus I installed a calorie counting app on my iPod.  Between the boxing, the yoga burn, and the counting calories I’m making progress! I was actually able to get my wedding rings on!  I didn’t leave them on because they were still uber tight but we’re making progress!

This week I’m switching to Pilates instead of yoga burn – gotta keep things changing so the body doesn’t adapt!

Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah!  Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.

Okay, on to making new friends!!!

There’s a new Friday Follow on the block! Thanks to Ian, Harriet, and Tami we have an all new and improved Friday Follow! I’m excited to try it out! Maybe one day I’ll even try for a host spot. For now I’m just a spectator!

Gah! Again, here we are at Friday – I can’t believe it!  My week did go a bit slower than normal but still was blazing fast!

Two orders of business today as usual – Friday Follow and my accountability check!  We’ll be accoutable first (as always)…

I was down right sick this week! It all started with a very unpleasant incident at 3:00am on Saturday that I’m not going to get into and continued into a full blown cold – yuck!  The lack of energy, congestion, runny nose, and coughing kept me from going to boxing most of the week.  I did manage to get back there yesterday and even did some Jillian Michaels today (her 30 min Yoga Burn DVD is pretty good…I’m definitely feeling the burn..) but my success this week revolved around the fact that I’m counting calories…trying to be VERY careful about how much I’m taking in as compared to my output.  Fortunately for me I wasn’t all that hungry anyways:)

Stats for this week:
Day 1 – 142lbs
Day 8 – 138lbs – woohoo!
Day 24 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Day 38 – 139.5 – okay, .5 lbs!  I attribute that to the fact that i’m putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat right??:)
Day 45 – 137.5 – woohooo!  Now, we fluctuated a bit this week but as of this AM this is where I’m at!!

I think next week I need to switch over to weeks instead of days….I’m having a hard time counting the days each time:)  I originally started on days because I was going to do the 30day shred…ya, we see how long tha lasted!  I’m still proud of myself for keeping with boxing though!  It’s still totally fun which makes me want to go even more.

This week I’m adding as many evening walks as I can with Noah as well as either Yoga or 30 day shred on my non boxing days.  Let’s see how that works!

Okay, all accounted for….on to fun things….this week I’m trying a different Friday follow group from the folks over at Trendy Treehouse (such a fun name)

So it’s Friday again – we survived the first week of daycare and both mom and baby are still happy and sane!  In fact, the consistency has been great for Noah and he’s sleeping better than ever (and now that I say that he’s going to throw me for a loop I’m sure!).  And I’m actually getting work done for work which, in order to keep my job, is a necessity!

Time for an accountability check with the Summer Shape Up!

I’ve done well with boxing – it’s fun enough that I want to go on a regular basis and the workouts are different and challenging every time!  I’ve managed to do the 3x a week that I wanted to so far and forsee that continuing.  It’s tricky when we go out of town for the weekend and means I end up doing three days in a row which is tough but hey, whatever it takes right?

I also started to watch my calories more closely.  You can’t lose weight unless you take in less than you burn but if you take in too little then your body enters starvation mode and it’s completely counter productive so I’ve had to start watching.  So far so good….

My clothes are starting to fit better and I can feel my abs getting stronger.  I need to figure ot how to get a bit more cardio in there now…maybe on my off days a quick run or even fast walk will probably help -let’s see if I can do that!

Apr 302010

So it’s Friday – wow this week went fast!  It was my first week back to work and I’m starting to get into the swing of things.  However, my anxiety is growing as I have just one more week with my little Noah home with me:(  I’m scrambling to figure out a way to keep him here – there are lots of college students that would love to Nanny I’m sure, now I just need to find them!  I’m actually surprised at how well I can work even with him here (of course, as long as someone is watching him).  I even moved my office out of the loft and into the guest room so that I can close the door and have some quiet as he’s playing downstairs.

Anyways, two topics at hand today.  Time for an accountability check with the Summer Shape Up and then a quick hello to all my new friends from the Friday Follow!  So…summer shape up first…

I’ve fallen off the wagon already:)  Doing the 30 day shred here at home with Noah was just too hard.  By the time I got him off to a nap, I found 10,000 other things I needed to do so the best I could muster on semi regular basis was some sit ups and maybe a walk.  Nothing hardly enough to start shedding the weight.  Since hubs is home for two weeks I thought I’d try a different work out – something my girlfriend told me she does and loves – Boxing!!:)  There is an LA Boxing gym just down the road and it happens to be the gym my friend goes to so I begged her to take me along one day.  HOLY COW! I love it!  Beating the crap out of a punching bag is a fantastic way to spend a workout!  You get your cardio and your strength all in one with the added bonus of some much needed stress relief!

So, my goal is to go to a class three days a week.  They say you can burn up to 1000 calories in an hour (of course, that’s only if you last the entire hour going balls to the walls crazy…) but even burning 400 or 800 is a great start!

Stats for this week:
Day 1 – 142lbs
Day 8 – 138lbs – woohoo!
Day 24 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.

My ideal weight – the weight I’m shooting for – my lowest post college, non-starved-like-I-was-in-highschool weight  – is 120lbs.  I’d settle for 125lbs if it meant that I was more muscle than pudge and that the baby belly remnants were gone.

Okay, I’m accounted for now!:)  On to Friday Follow!!

Okay….so we’re on Day 8 of the summer shape up.  I’ll admit I’ve not been very good at keeping up with the 30 day shred. I have however spent at least 30 min each day getting my pulse pumping. I invested in 3lb weights to use (instead of the 5lb weights) in hopes that I wont cheat as much during the workout (5lbs is just too heavy to start out with).  I also invested in a few new workout clothes that fit better than my old ones (and ones that I hope i get to say are too big some time soon!).  And for all that work…I’ve lost a few lbs:)

Day 1 – 142lbs
Day 8 – 138lbs – woohoo!

It may have been a fluke – we’ll see if I can keep this up.  I was very good about watching what I eat but have fallen a bit of the wagon the last few days – sweets are just too tempting.  I need to just throw out what we have here so I’m not tempted to eat it.  I’ve tried it in moderation but I have little self control when it comes to chocolate so I need to find lower fat/calorie ways to imbibe.  Thoughts? Any treats that you’ve found satisfy your sweet tooth but are not super high in calories and/or fat.

Apr 092010

I’ve always been a pretty fit person.  DH and I spent most of our free time while we were in California out hiking and/or biking.  Even here in Va we managed to get out and do some biking or hiking on a regular basis.  I loved it – feeling fit and trim.  Then pregnancy hit.  I vowed to continue to exercise in moderation and try to keep the weight monster at bay however between stresses at work, morning/all day sickness, ice storms making walking dangerous and the general aches and pains of pregnancy, I fell of that wagon pretty quickly.

I went from walking the dog twice a day to only managing the stairs on most days.  My weight ballooned to a number I’ve never seen before and hope never to see again.  Now, at least half that weight was necessary for the pregnancy, the other half – well, let’s just say I had a raging Panera Broccoli and Cheese soup habit.  The final total on my pregnancy weigh gain was 42 lbs – the morning I was induced I weighed in at a cool 162lbs at the dr’s office.  Oh how I hated that scale!

After Noah arrived I quickly dropped 20 odd lbs in the first three weeks.  However, now things have plateaued and I’ve been stuck at 142lbs for the last 3 weeks.  Now, 10lb of that is probably the extra heft of my milk laden boobies (okay, maybe 5lbs…anyways, I digress) but that still leave at least 10 more that have settled on my belly, arms, thighs, and butt (OMG – i tried on a number of my pre-pregnancy work out shorts and none of them would fit around my arse – I didn’t think it expanded that much! I had to buy a new work out wardrobe!).

Cue Jillian Michales!  I’ve heard great things about her 30 day shred and since it was on sale on Amazon ($8 anyone??!) I decided to give it a try – today is day 1 and I almost died!!  I knew I was outta shape but oh wow – she’s a hard arse and I’m all squishy marshmallow!

So, I’ll try to keep up a weekly check in on here to keep me accountable.  DH has lots of plans this summer for beach volleyball tournaments which means bathing suits and I don’t want to have to buy a new suit – I LOVE the ones I have now.   I’m not brave enough to post before and after pics here – sorry.  Maybe if the results are spectacular then I’ll post a beach shot later this summer (haha..yea, right!).  I end to fall off the wagon pretty quickly so I’ll need all the help I can get to stay on track with this.

My motivation – Jenny McCarthy!  If she can look that amazing after a baby – then I certainly can (even if I dont have a personal trainer, chef, and nanny to watch the baby so I can work out 10 hours a day:) ).

Day 1 – 142lbs
