I’m still in denial that Lia turns 2 today! I was browsing through my phone pictures and found ones of her just a few months ago before we moved and she was a totally different little kid. She still had many baby qualities that have all but disappeared now. Plus her hair has finally grown in some (that makes such a difference!) and her little personality has just continued to evolve and grow. She’s so funny.

I’ve always said this before but she’s a fierce little munchkin. She’s intensely funny and always trying to make you laugh but will turn on a dime and scream if you don’t do it the way she wants. I remember it being kind of like this with Noah except his turns were atomic and generally lasting vs. hers can be reversed with a slide of hand or a big bulldozer.

“Me too”, “I don’t want it”, and “I do” are her favorite phrases these days. Always wanting to be included in what’s going on I now realize why my parents were so big on being fair – we probably wouldn’t let them get away with anything else. If Noah has a pretzel, Lia has to have one too. And she will be considerate and ask for one for him if she gets to it first. (she always asks for a smoothie for bubba when I hand hers to her.)

Poor thing didn’t get a proper party because we’re heading to the beach the weekend we would have held it so we’re taking her out tonight and have a cool Minnie Mouse candle (because she’s kind of obsessed with Minnie Mouse). Our plan is to throw her something while we’re at the beach – cake and all. Just a few days late. Next year she deserves a big bash!!

Weight:27lb and holding strong
Length: not entirely sure but she’s sprouted a bunch based on the marks on the walls we’ve been making. I’ll have to measure later.
Head:big…haha. I don’t think it’s changed much actually.
Sleep: Still needs rocked to sleep:( It’s actually quite the process now. She starts on the floor reading books, playing puzzles and then asks to be rocked. It’s tough because she’s so big now and has trouble getting comfortable. Although I still secretly love her snuggles.
Eating:anything and everything still
Milestones: Has really started to talk now. Stringing words together to make primitive sentences etc..

I do have pictures to share but they’re on the other computer and I’ve just not had the time or energy to fix them and post. Hopefully soon!!:)

I’m starting to feel bad about these monthly update – or lack there of. I was looking back at Noah’s and I was pretty consistent until two so I figure I have to make up for with Lia:)

20 Months huh? That spot half way between 1.5 and 2 where they’re more little kid than baby but you (I) refuse to let go of the baby part. The place where we start thinking about potty training and bracing for the terrible twos.

Lia’s a funny but fierce little girl. She goes from sweet as pie to mad as a hornet in about .2 seconds if she’s not getting what she wants. Her language skill have yet to arrive so I’m sure that’s extra frustrating. She makes the best faces when she’s mad though..it’s really hard not to laugh. She’s ended up in time out a bunch lately and she’s totally compliant which is a change…Noah was not one for timeouts – they’d go on forever because he’d never actually stay in them.

As for words – Mamma, Dadda, Bubba, Noah, Macie, eeah (pointing to herself), NO!, ball, boat, jacket, head, nose, apple, milk, bye bye are the most clear. The rest you can figure out usually. She just started making animal sounds when you ask her what says what. She like the lion (roar…) and the sheep (baaa) the best.

She’s a kisser – she loves to kiss (usually). She’ll walk over to any one of us and plant a kiss on the closest thing to her. Sometimes it’s your leg, sometimes your foot. Generally your hip or if you’re holding her it might actually make it to your cheek. Regardless, it’s so adorable. She’s definitely a lover and a snuggler.

She’s a talker too…oh my goodness. Like I mentioned before, she has few words but that does’t stop her from having a full on conversation with you in gibberish. Inflection and all….she gets it right and even appears to as you a question (and point). She must figure that we talk to each other like that so if she does it then we’ll totally understand her. Haha…

I’m still rocking her to sleep which I know I should break but I just love the night time snuggles with her and since she’s our last I’m soaking it in and figure we’ll deal with it when she gets to a big girl bed (which could be soon…we move Noah to a big bed around 23 months…).

She’s decided to potty train herself which I’ll expand on in another post (because you know you want to know all about her potty habits right??!) and we’re just going with it even though she’s a little early. I credit it to the older kids at daycare and her older brother.

I’m still in denial that I’ll have a 2 year old and 4 year old by the end of the summer. I miss the baby stage a little bit but I’m loving this stage so much more. We’re getting to a point with both of them that we can start doing the fun “educational” trips and family events and see that they really understand what’s happening and have fun with it (whereas before it was more for DH and I:) ).

And…per tradition:)
Weight:27lb
Length:up to my hip? best I could do given she moves so much
Head:big…haha. I don’t think it’s changed much actually.
Sleep: She still has not yet mastered putting herself to sleep. She’ll sleep through the night just fine (with the occasional cluster of Night Terrors which are horrible) but when it actually comes to falling asleep she’s a mess unless it’s on your chest (with three blankets, a sippy, and a book).
Eating:anything and everything still
Milestones: Has a full conversation of gibberish with you. Has decided to start potty training herself…

And I promise I have more pictures but man…I sit down to work on them and I pass out. Perhaps I need to move to an actual desk when I’m editing vs the couch.

4 years ago around this time I was waiting through those last 2 centimeters loving my epidural man….today I’m listening to a quiet house while DH takes Noah swimming and Lia catches up on her sleep. We had a blast yesterday at Noah’s party (post forthcoming) and I’m in awe of the fact that I have a 4 year old on my hands.

Life with Noah these days is a mixture of awe, hilarity and frustration. Watching how self sufficient and independent he’s become fills me with awe. What’s even more amazing is he’s actually able to successfully accomplish what he insists on doing (dressing, bathing, setting the table, emptying the trash etc). I just can’t get over it. I can ask him now to help Lia with small things and it actually works!

The hilarity comes in when he repeats something that we’ve said and uses it correct context. “That was super mommy” or “That might be a possibility daddy”. Or better yet, lays out one of the stories from his head that go into such crazy and disconnected details that you can’t do anything but nod along chuckling to yourself. It’s a mish mosh of crazy from his head and other stories we’ve told him in the past. I love it.

Frustration happens at least 5 times a day, every day. Most of the time from him because he can’t do things or we won’t let him do things but many times it comes from us because he’s the king at pushing his limits. I’ve caught him out of the corner of my eye pushing his little sister (and then denying it when we confront him) or touching that thing that I asked him repeatedly not to touch just to see if he can get away with it. The “No Monster” still rears his ugly head some days but retreats back to his cave with a quick application of redirection. Get him talking about fires, firemen, rescues, tools, or ninja turtles and he’s all better. Typical 3 verging on 4 year old type of stuff.

Like a typical 3/4 year old he’s a walking contradiction. He’s strong headed and strong willed yet at the same time sensitive to being told “no” or being yelled at (actually, we don’t yell – just reprimanding him, even in a calm tone, upsets him to the point where he retreats to a quite spot to pout). He’s not a fan of loud noises or puppets (?!) and will find a place to bury his head however, he’s the first to forget about his indoor voice and start shouting while he’s playing. He loves sweets and candy but will tell you that he doesn’t want them (sometimes) because they won’t make him big and strong.

I know I say it every birthday but he’s turning into such a little man and every year I say that this age is better than the last and that this may be my “favorite”. It’s true though. I’ve loved every stage (even the whiny one from 1-3..haha) and looks like this one is going to be so much fun – I can’t wait!

Here’s my little man from birth on up….how they change!!

18 months huh? She’s moving on up in the daycare world to the next room and growing by leaps and bounds. I love seeing her little personality emerge. She’s silly and oh so smiley but has a fierce temper when she’s frustrated or doesn’t get her way. She’s got a streak of the dramatic too when things are not right (gracefully splaying herself prone on the floor when you leave the room…crocodile tears and all).

She likes to do girly things like shop. I find her, purse strung over her arm, pushing her shopping cart up and down the halls. It’s full of things she found around the house like her sippy, other cups/bowls, play food, clothes…whatever she can find. Usually one of her babies is in the front seat. It’s all so hilarious.

We never push gender roles here and I think she would have been perfectly happy with all of Noah’s boyish toys but man, as soon as we got a few baby dolls, play kitchen and a shopping cart up in this place, her inner girl came bursting out and we found her naturally gravitating to those items. I find it fascinating.

Weight:24.7 lbs
Length:32.75 inches
Head: I don’t know but she’s still like 95% (19ish inches)
Sleep: Better! We get a few nights here and there where she’s up to party from about 2 – 4 but those are stretching out thankfully.
Eating: Everything in sight! No problems with being picky or no appetite (now that I say that I’m jinxing myself for sure). We’ve just recently started to give her a fork and a spoon to feed herself. I don’t know why we waited so long other than we just didn’t think to do it earlier.
Sizes: Carters 18’s, 18-24 mos and few 2T things. She’s tall with long legs so I have to use the 2T pants sometimes for them to be long enough.
Milestones: Words are slowly coming. She’s a chatter box but much of it’s babble. She’ll try to repeat what you’re saying so we’re making progress. DH said if you just listen to her you can tell what she’s saying…most of the time that’s true. Otherwise she’s block stacking, climbing, running, and has figured out how to get the printer to give her paper to color on. For the most part, when Noah does something or goes somewhere she has to go too. I started to dress him for the snow the other day and she drops her snow pants and jacket on my lap and waits for me to dress her as well.

It’s been a long while since I’ve done a full update on Noah and I don’t even know where to begin. He’s just a little boy now. It’s crazy. He’s independent, sensitive, stubborn, and so damn smart. He retains so much knowledge

– 39lbs, 42in (I think – he’s tall!), wearing 4T/5T for the most part, size 10 shoe.
– 3’s room at daycare with his own “share” day and he LOVES it! Wednesday is a very important day in our house.
– Loves playing outside and riding his bike (sans training wheels). He tells us when he sees people without helmets that it’s dangerous.
– Very excited for our new house and yard (and basement for his trains). He was constantly packing up things prior to the move to make sure they were included.
– Loves Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder and most recently monster trucks and he can find them on the tablet (and computer when we let him have access).
– He can use a computer and mouse as well as we do!
– He needs his milk and carrots before bed (it’s a stall tactic but who am I to deny milk and carrots)
– He’s in bed between 8 and 10pm depending on his nap during the day – he’s still having a few accidents at night but generally because he’s sleeping so deeply he just doesn’t notice.
– I always listen out for “noahisms” but frankly he make so much sense when he talks that I can’t remember the last nonsense phrase he uttered. He says things like “take care of yourself mommy” as I walk out the door. Or in response to me pouting because he called me a bad mommy, he turns around and says, “I’m sorry, you’re a good mommy”. Or “your beautiful mommy” (which of course melts my heart).
– He always wants to help with Lia. He tells me that he’ll get her and take care of her.
– He loves to pack his backpack with supplied (paper plates, plastic table ware, and usually Lia toys) for our trips around the neighborhood. He packs snacks and food too for the two of them. He likes to be prepared.
– His tantrums have taken on a new level of intensity which is just payback for what I did to my parents as a child I’m sure. Screaming till he’s blue and crying till he’s purple is par for the course. Thankfully they don’t happen that often but when they do…EPIC!
– I’ve been working with him on making up stories and using his imagination. On the long car ride home I’ll start a story and try to get him to add to it. We’ll go back and forth and make up something totally non sense…then he asks me to repeat it.
– Lately he’s been a bit OCD about cleaning things. He’ll look at a room and tell us that we’ve made a mess and that we need to clean things up. Totally fine *most* of the time.

I’m sure I’m missing things but…I just can’t get over the fact that he’s mine. I love just sitting back and watching him talk or interact with other people. I don’t know when it happened but at some point he became a little man capable of holding fully coherent conversations on subjects that feel beyond the realm of an almost 4 year old. Sometimes I forget that he’s not yet 4 because of how articulate he is (then he throws an epic tantrum and I’m brutally brought back to reality).

Every time I think we’re at the best age, he grows a little more and I love the new age more than the last.

(I promise pictures soon…the move is over, the holidays are almost over, and I may actually have time to go through the hundreds of pictures I have accumulated lately).

My goodness, I think this is the longest I’ve ever gone without a blog post since starting this thing 4 years ago. I attribute that to packing and living in limbo as the house finishes…that and our longer commutes which mean earlier mornings and later evenings to try to fit everything in. I have so many pictures stacked up from the last few months that I need to share and will hopefully some day.

Anyways, trying to stay on the wagon with posts for Lia (and trying to get one out for Noah before he turns 4 in 2 months!!)

Lia these days is just hilarious. She’s monkey two in the monkey see monkey do pairing:) Noah does it, she follows right along including bebopping to the music in his head and sliding down the stairs on their bellies. The interactions with them are becoming more frequent and deliberate and it’s so amazing to watch. He loves his little sis and she thinks he’s the coolest thing out there. He can get her to talk better than we can these days. Our rides home in the car consist of Noah asking Lia to repeat words after him and her actually doing pretty well.

She’s talking more but still pretty garbled. You can clearly hear Apple (which I’ll count as her first word), Shoes, Thank you, mama, dada, dadoo, baba (noah), nana (banana). If she’s hungry or thirsty she smacks her lips and sticks out her tongue. Pretty darn obvious on what she wants.

If you ask her a yes/no question she’ll respond by shaking her head one way or the other. She does this best when you ask if she’s hungry or thirsty and then show her what you have to offer to eat/drink. As for eating and drinking, this kid has an appetite! I remember all the problems we had with Noah and eating. She shows none of that.

Her fine motor control is pretty good which makes up for her not really talking. She’s using a fork quite a bit of success. I found her putting Noah’s plastic screws into the right holes in his tool box. She loves to pretend to feed you and eat with you. Plus just the other night I found her in Noah’s room coloring with him and holding a pencil correctly to draw scribbles.

Sleep is still hit or miss. Some nights it’s easy to put her down and she’ll sleep the whole way thru. Others I struggles to put her down. Most nights she’ll sleep straight thru, others she’ll perk up but put herself to sleep, still others – rarely now thankfully, she’s up for the duration….Those are always fun mornings.

I love in the mornings when we go to get her we find her bouncing up and down. Then before you pick her up, she bends down to grab all of her blankets so that she can get one last snuggle after you pick her up. Then she struggles to be let down so she can go find her daddy.

She LOVES her daddy….the calls of “dada” from her room in the AM (or PM when she should be going to sleep) totally melt my heart (and his). She has him wrapped around her little finger for sure. Many nights she won’t go to sleep for anyone but him. I watch him melt every time she yells his name or runs over for a hug.

Life is so full and days have been passing by so quickly. I’m trying my best not to let things pass so quickly in my head and to savor all the moments – good and bad. When I find myself wishing away the hours when they’re being particularly naughty I try to catch myself and shift back to soaking it all in. She’s our last and as those baby years slip away I don’t want to forget any of the experiences.

And just to keep with tradition:

Weight:24, almost 25lbs
Length: 33 inches (i think)
Head:19 inches (110%!!!)
Sleep:Hit or miss….
Eating: Anything and everything:)
Sizes: Size 5 shoe, likely a 6 soon. 18-24 clothes…I need to buy more 24 mo pants.
Milestones:Just recently she had one of those leaps (where she wakes at 4am talking up a storm) and since then more words and clarity have appeared. She knows fully what she wants you to do but just can’t articulate it yet. Pointing, grunting and crying usually gets the point across.

Nov 302013

*this was written actually around her 15 month mark amazingly but never posted… May as well post it:)*

It’s been a busy month. The house is coming along nicely and we have a closing date. I almost feel like a normal home buyer at this point. Now that they time has changed tho, we don’t get to see it as often since it’s well past dark when we get home. We’re left with the weekends.

As for kiddos, Halloween was a blast. Lia was a fairy with an enormous tutu and Noah was a construction worker for one and dinosaur for another.

I have lots of pictures to sort thru including house, halloween, my dad’s birthday and pumpkin patch ones…one of these nights I’ll actually get to them.

As for Lia and being 15 months – I just can’t believe it. She’s getting so big so fast. She’s funny and sweet and loves to give hugs and kisses especially if her brother is crying or upset. She is temperamental and hates her carseat but usually because she’s bored or we corrected her about something.

She dances when she hears music and usually calms down too when you start to sing (but only specific songs…happy and you know it and head/shoulders/knees/toes are popular)

She has two more teeth breaking through (incisors) and I hit or miss on sleeping. Most nights she’s good for all night but ever once and a while we end up with a 3am gab/cry session.

Weight:My guess is 23 lbs
Length: 32 inches
Head:19 inches (110%!!!)
Sleep:Sleeping thru the night for the most part. She’s also getting better about putting herself to sleep. I still rock her because I just can’t give that up but I will put her down drowsy most times.
Eating: Anything and everything:)
Sizes: 18-24 stuff for sure and even some of those are too short or too tight (they run small I guess?). She’s moving on up to a size 5 shoe pretty soon.
Milestones:Nothing huge, mama/dada are more clear and now the dog has a name (dahdoo just like Noah started with). She’ll say “thank you” when she hands you thinks and will try to mimic anything you ask her to say (Apple, mama, dada, dahdoo, thank you, car, ball etc..).

Oct 152013

So, as it happened with Noah I fell of the boat with their monthly updates after they passed a year. It’s likely because it also coincided with our move to temporary housing (more on the progress of that later hopefully) but also a new commute, new school and amazing weather:)

The neighborhood around us is so wonderful. Lots of young families that you’ll find out using the miles and miles of sidewalks that lead to schools, fields, and play gyms. Sure, we’re in a smaller house with no yard bit we’ve it’s not really that bad.

Anyways, I digress, on to Lia. She up and walked a week or two after her first birthday and we actually managed to get it on video (now I just need to find which phone it was on)! From that point one she’s been running full speed. At this point she’s all about following her brother and will climb and run right along with him (or at least try ). She’s going to be a handful for sure! I already found her trying to get out of her crib (she was jamming her feet between the slats and twisting them to get traction – I see a climbing wall in her future!)

She’s vocal but really doenst have any words yet. I get “mama” and DH gets “dah” occasionally and I could have sworn I heard all done (rather..”ah dah”) this evening (with the right sign). Noah was a late talker too and once he did he spoke in full sentences so I suppose she’s just following his lead.

She HATES her car seat. Any trip where she’s not sleeping is pretty much miserable – unless I’m singing silly songs at the top of my lungs. Then she’s quiet. I guess she just doesn’t want to compete to see who can be loudest:) Thankfully Noah loves that game and joins in the singing. That said, she loves singing so I hope we have another musical child on our hands.

New daycare is wonderful. She’s finally warming up to it and not crying when I leave (neither of them are actually). They’re making new friends and we’re so much more involved. It just has to do with the type of daycare but it’s definitely different. We loved our last place and were sad to leave but we love this place just as much!

As eating goes, she’s a fan of everything and in large quantities. I’ve never seen a kid her size put away so much food. She put away about a 1.5 cups of pasta and two meatballs the other night on top of the milk, apples, and yogurt she’d had just prior. I do think she has a strawberry allergy because she gets terrible diaper rash after eating them so sadly we’ve cut them out for now. I think she’s sensitive to eggs too (just scrambled, not in things) because a similar thing happens. I’m cutting them out and then going to try to reintro them to see what happens. Otherwise, any fruit or soft veggie is fair game. Apples, cantaloupe, plums, and bananas are particular favorites.

Sleep is much improved. She’s been going down around 7/7:30 and will sleep clear until 6:30. Sometimes she perks up around 10pm but will put herself back down. I’m still rocking her to sleep but noticed that I don’t need to. Once she’s drowsy I can put her down – I just don’t want to:) I love watching her face as she sleeps.

She hasn’t been nearly as sick as Noah was at this age. I think that’s part of what time of year they were born in. We’ve only had one near ear infection (to his 4 by this point). Although, I know now that I said that, she’ll get sick now.

Oh, and she has 12 teeth! 4 molars and then 4 on top and bottom.

So, just to stick with tradition:

Weight:My guess is 23lbs
Length: Wild guess but 32 inches I think. She’s almost out grown the length on her 18-24 month pants!
Sleep:better
Eating: Anything and everything:)
Sizes: 12-18 stuff but some 18-24. The weather is getting colder so I’ve had to break out the pants and tights. Gosh I love dressing a baby girl:)
Milestones:Lots of things lately – she’s running full speed ahead, sleeping thru the night, saying (sometimes) mama and dah…points to the dog and pants etc. She’s a great problem solver actually.

One year ago today our little family of three grew to a family of four. Lia has changed our lives is so many wonderful ways. My heart doubled in size again at her arrival and it soars with little moment I find her and Noah having together. He’s so attentive to her and she adores him.

Happy Birthday my little Lia, love you:)

I’ll do her regular monthly post as well as her 1 year pictures over the next few days once I get more time.

Jun 302013

There’s no 31st this month so you get this a day early…how exciting:) So much going on these days! Lia’s first birthday is around the corner and I think unfortunately she’s not going to get the big shebang that Noah did. We have so much going on with the house that I’m not sure I’m going to find the time to plan anything. We’ll see.

Weight:My guess is 20lbs
Length: Again, wild guess is 30 inches based on the fact that she’s outgrown her car seat
Sleep:Still hit or miss. We’re generally up at least once to eat something and lately 2 twice…new teeth perhaps?
Eating: She’s been eating more lately which I think means a growth spurt. She loves fruits and veggies and even housed a smoothie that I made one morning (spinach, pineapple, mango, yogurt and OJ..mmm…). I think she’s still around 20 oz of milk for the day plus all of her solids. I can’t believe we’ll be moving to milk soon. Yaya…no $40 formula bill per grocery run!
Sizes: Mostly 9 – 12 month stuff. I have a few 6-9’s that will fit but they’re few and far in between (mostly shorts)
Milestones:Bought a baby jail because I can’t put her down for more than a min without having to chase her – not good for getting anything done. She doesnt seem to mind as long as she’s not in there long. She’s great at standing while holding on to things and will cruise a bit. She still won’t voluntarily stand on her own but I’ve seen her do it – just today even. I’ve also seen her almost stand up without holding on to anything.

The biggest think I think – aside from the new volume and frequency in which she vocalizes is that she’s in a new car seat. Her little legs finally just go too long for the old one and were hanging all over the place. So we bought Noah a harnessed booster and moved her to his old seats.

She also seems to understand more of what we say. There’s a smidgen of comprehension when we tell her who dada and mama is and when I tell her No for something.

It was hard to contain her for pictures this time around. She about launched herself off the chair 3 times before I gave up and moved the whole operation to the floor. Plus she’s figured out the sticker and doesnt want to leave it be.

Weight: 19ish lbs
Length: 29 inches
Sleep:We were doing better for a week or so (she’d go down around 7, wake at 2 for a snack, and then back until 6) but two new teeth and a cold have sent us back into sleep hell.
Eating: We’re branching out on her solids. I fed her a whole cereal bar the other day in pieces and she LOVED it…although, she was covered head to toe in it by the time she was done. She gets around 20 oz of formula a day and solids at least 3 if not 4 times a day.
Sizes: Adding some 12 mo stuff and packing up the 6 mo stuff…
Milestones:Just after she hit 9 month she started to crawl. Now she’s a little motor that goes anywhere and everywhere. About a week ago she started to pull up on things consistently and now she’s attempting a few steps while hanging on to things. I think she’ll be walking before her first birthday (which is now only 2 months away – gah!)

I find myself forgetting how old she is because of her lack of hair (I think). At this point Noah had a pretty good mop going on and she’s still pretty much bald and therefore reminds me more of a baby still. The hair is starting to come in but it’s mostly on the back of her head so we’ll be rocking the mullet out for a while I think.

I’m a little late on this because it’s been crazy around here. We’re all not getting much sleep so I’m generally out by 9pm on most nights in an effort to catch up. Lia’s hit the 9 month sleep regression bit. She generally spends 1:30 – 3 or 3:30 awake and yelling out in glee. I suppose it could be worse, she could be crying. Instead she’s being cute. I guess I’ll take it.

Can you believe she’s only 3 months away from 1 year old? I have no idea where all the time went.

Weight: 18lbs 4oz
Length: 29 inches (90%) (although I think she’s longer since she’s pretty much out of her 6 mo clothes)
Sleep:Having some sleep regression issues. She was sick at the start of the month and it just never got better. She’s down by 7 generally and wakes at 12/1 and then again at 3/4. Lately she’s been up for good at 5:30am which is not a pattern I like:) Hopefully now that she’s made the leap (we have new skills:) ) she’ll get back to a better schedule. I do remember this with noah too.
Eating: Not a ton new here. She’s gone thru all the frozen milk I had so we’re 100% formula and solids. I experiment with whatever table foods we have avail but for the most part she’s still eating purees, puffs, and cheerios. She’s okay with that. I need to try a sippy again too, last attempt was not so successful.
Sizes: Mostly 9’s and 6-9’s. I’m washing all the 12 stuff and rotating some of it in.
Milestones:So I think the root of our sleep issues was this development leap. She can get from back to belly to sitting and back down with no problem. Just the other night (a little past 9 months) I saw her crawl for real on all 4’s. It was more of a little hop for her legs and then advancing her hands but she’s getting the hang of it. No more potted plant. Plus, she’s pulling up a bit more on thing to get to standing. She’s making more vowel sounds too. I’ve heard mamama, dada, and gaga out of her on various occasions.

I’ll get her pictures done this weekend hopefully.

ETA: Finally got pics done:)

Gosh, this has actually been a good month, that is up until the very end there. We all caught the stomach flu and now the kids both have horrible colds:( Oh well, such is the life of a child I suppose.

Weight: 18ish lbs (done by weighing me and then me with her:) )
Length: 27ish inches (90%) (although I think she’s longer since she’s pretty much out of her 6 mo clothes)
Sleep:Doing better! She’s still perking up once or twice a night but for the most part a quick paci check and we’re back down. She can go the whole night without eating but I’ll generally give her a bottle when she wakes at 4 or so. It’s just easier to get her back to sleep. She’s down in the evenings by 7:15 and will sleep thru till 6:30am
Eating: As of the 31st she’s off the boob. I’d been dropping pumping sessions all month and just nursing at home. Then she started to reject me at home so I figured it was time. We still have some frozen milk stashed way so she’s getting one bottle a day during the week plus her formula bottles. It’s so weird – at this point Noah was taking upwards in 30oz of formula a day where as she’s at like half that. Feels so wrong but she doesn’t seem hungry and she’s growing so I figure it’s enough. She’s taking three things of solids a day too (plus any puffs/yougurt bites we give her). I let her go to town on some noodles, beans and carrots the other night and she was so excited!
Sizes: In all 6-9 or Carters 9. Daycare sent back all of her 6 month stuff because she’s too long for it now.
Milestones:She’s a champ at sitting and is starting to figure out how to get on her belly without bonking her head. On her belly she’s pulling her knees in a bit and bouncing but still hasn’t figure out forward motion. Mostly she just pushes herself around backwards. I see her reaching for things to pull herself up with but she’s not yet strong enough. I expect this month we’ll see that milestone. Plus I think she has two more teeth coming in – joy!

We’re closer to 1 year now than we are her birth..pretty crazy if you ask me. Lia’s developing such a personality! She’s still a really sweet and smiley baby although we’ve had some rough times lately with sickness and teeth. Despite all that she’s still the most chipper baby I’ve seen in a long time. I love love love when she flashes that wide gummy smile for you. She also loves loves loves her brother. She follows him around the room with her eyes and laughs hysterically when he runs around her. I can’t wait till their older and she can really participate.

Weight: 16lbs
Length: 27ish inches (90%)
Sleep:Has been hit or miss this month. We finally got rid of the ear infection and she started sleeping better for like a day and then those two pesky teeth made their appearance. I think that’s passed now (at least the worst part) so now I need to try to get her back on her schedule (she was so far off the deepend that i need a weekend to reset things)
Eating: I’m still pumping/nursing when at home but my supply is starting to decrease and I’m okay with that. She still gets 3 BM bottles and one formula bottle at school for the most part (some days it’s half and half). I’m saving my freezer stash for when I completely stop pumping so that she at least gets a little bit of BM. I figure at this point I can probably get her to 9 or 10 months with at least some breast milk. We’ll see how that goes. As for solids she’ll sometimes do a little container in the AM and then I’ll send a larger container to school. Then she’ll do another little (or finish off the one from the AM) around dinner time. Girl certainly likes to eat!!
Sizes: I bumped her up to 6-9 month and Carters 9 but then realized that I don’t have much in that size so I had to go shopping:) (woah is me right??!!:) )
Milestones:Again, lots this month (which could also explain some of the sleep fun stuff). She’s sitting on her own now although I do put pillows around since she’s not great about getting back to laying without bonking her head. Those two teeth that I felt last month have busted thru. She rolls back and forth pretty freely now. I’ll put her down and she works her way around to get what she wants. I’ve also found her sleeping on her stomach once or twice (although she still prefers her back). She pushes her chest off the floor and I can see those little feet and knees starting to pull up under her although I’m sure we’re still a ways away from crawling yet (and i’m okay with that…two on the move will be much more challenging)

I have a bunch of photos that I’ve taken in the last few weeks but have to actually get thru them..haha. For now, here’s a few from her photo shoot this am…

6 months – half a year old!! Wow! I’d say that time went by fast but that’d be lying:) This month has been hard and long. She’s been sick pretty much the entire month which means her sleep is in the toilet. I spent most nights with her asleep on me while I sat up in the rocking chair (with the boppy propped up around me so she was safe and snug). So, to say we’re both exhausted is an understatement.

I think we’ve finally turned a corner in the last week though. She’s finally mostly healthy and so am I so now we can start working on getting those nice sleep habits back.

Weight: 15lbs (or so, DH did the docs appt and didn’t write it down) (50%)
Length: 27 inches (90%)
Sleep:So like I said, it sucked this month. Being sick (flu then an ear infection) combined with working on a development milestone we just didn’t get much sleep. She’d only sleep on me most of the time and for a good week she’d only sleep with a boob in her mouth so yea, I didn’t much sleep myself. But, we’ve turned a corner (knocking on wood) and I’m working on getting her back into a good sleep habit (which means tracking how much sleep she gets during the day to make sure we hit the sack early enough. I’ve noticed if she doesn’t book a full 14 hours a day she’s up all night.)
Eating: So we made it to 6 months of breastfeeding which was my big goal!!! Although, every time I think of weaning her I get sad so I’m not quite ready to do it yet. I did start giving her solids about 2 weeks ago before bed to see if it made a difference in her sleep. It didn’t but she did show me that she loves food!! She’ll put away a full 2.5 oz container 3 times a day now in addition to 4 4oz bottles at school and at least 3 nursing sessions at home. I don’t know where she puts it all.
Sizes: Mostly in Carters 6’s now. I have a few size 3 pants that work as capris but for the most part she’s graduated up.
Milestones:Lots going on this month. We get a consistent belly to back roll now and just this week she started back to side and almost over. She gets stuck on her arm. I give her another week and we’ve got both mastered. She’s also working on sitting. She can sit for a few seconds on her own and will sit for a while if I put a boppy behind her. We’re definitely making strides in that direction. Gosh, I can’t believe that in another month or two she’ll probably be pulling up to her knees!!

I can also feel her two front bottom teeth starting to push up. You can see her little gums bulging which means they’re well on their way. That could also be part of our problem with sleep:)

Adventures:Nothing big lately. We’ve made it thru our first ear infection so I suppose that’s an adventure.

And just like that she’s 5 months old! They say time flies when you’re having fun…well time flies when you’re not getting enough sleep too:) Hehe. That’s our new development this month. Call it 4 month wakeful a month late or just call it “we’ve been sick for almost a month now” but Lia’s beautiful sleep habits are a thing of the past. She’s still a super happy chipper baby, especially at 3am when it’s time to sleep. She’s found her voice and will certainly let you know she’s there. It’s funny because it’s not angry yells, it’s the “hey, i’m over here look at me yells”. Totally cute even at 3am.

I’m hoping that as we figure out how to kick these colds/viruses that she and I keep passing back and forth (DH and Noah are unaffected thankfully) that we’ll be on to better sleep. She’s just so freakin congested that sometimes she goes to breath thru her nose and it’s clogged which then causes her to panic and scream (which then only exacerbates the problem). She’s been sleeping in her car seat a bunch just because it props her up enough to keep the snot from choking her.

Outside of that she’s still the sweetest most smiley baby you’d ever meet. Other peoples reactions to her are always the same. They’ll coo and gah at her and she’ll flash that big gummy smile and they melt:) I melt:) Toss in a giggle and they’re incapacitated..haha. I certainly hope her sunny personality stays with her as she gets bigger. It will be a nice change from Noah’s stormy one.

Weight: She’s got to be pushing 14lbs now..she feels so solid.
Length: i’ll be we’ve hit 25 inches by now. If I can nail her down for more than 10 seconds I’ll try to measure.
Sleep:Yea, this. If we take the last 2 weeks as our guide, she’s down at 7:30ish, up at 12:30/1 ish, 2:30/3 ish, 4:30/5ish, then up for good at 7 or so. In between those times she’s fitful and just full of snot which when she tries to breath in thru her nose causes her to cough and sputter because it’s clogged. Beautiful stuff I tell you. I’ve spent most nights from about 3:00 on sleeping in the rocking chair with her propped up on my chest (but not on her belly, no, she likes the cradle hold). She’s most definitely not a belly sleeper.
Eating: 5 months EBF and going strong!! I’m shooting for 6 months and then we’ll see. I’m kind of torn about going longer or not. I’d like to get back to exercising but every time I do, my supply takes a huge dip. I haven’t found the magic combo that lets me do both yet. So that’s one argument for starting to wean but every time I think about it I get sad. We’re doing so well and it’s so easy!
Sizes: I pulled all of her 0-3 mo stuff out of rotation and dropped in a few Carters 6 and 6-9 mo things. They’re still a bit big but a quick roll of the cuff and things work.
Milestones:She graduated to the exersaucer now. Her head control is exceptional and she loves to stand up. However, we can’t get her to roll over with any kind of consistency. She’s happy to be on her back. If I stick her on her tummy she’ll just lay her head down vs. roll to her back so…we’ve been working on it. She’s also sitting better now with assistance. I can get her to balance for a few seconds before she slumps over.

She’s definitely working more with her toys. She’s mastered the bar over her bouncy and is getting the hang of the ones on the exersaucer. She’ll grab things and pull them to her and straight into her mouth. She’s even figured out that her hands are part of her and seems to be amazed at that.
Adventures:Lots and lots of holiday travel. We made trips to both grands over the course of a few weekends.

4 months…gosh, I can’t believe she’s 4 months already. It feels like she’s been here forever. I was looking at pics of her birthday and that just seems so far away. Noah even looks so much younger…4 months can really make a difference.

She’s a growing happy little girl. We’ve struggled a little with sleep but only briefly and it was because she was sick. Seems she has a stuffy nose every few weeks. I blame daycare but it’s good because she’s building up immunity to lots of fun things. Noah’s hardly sick anymore because he got it all out of the way in that first year.

She’s still a super smiley girl and so content. She’s also still pretty quiet. It’s just in the last week or so that I’m hearing more coo’s and gah’s from her. Even her hungry cry isn’t anything to write home about (and now that I say that she’s going to jack the volume up..haha).

Anywho…

Weight: 13lb 2oz…
Length: 24.75 inches
Sleep:Still going down around 7/7:30 and will either wake at 1:30am or 3:30am depending on how much she ate the day before. In either case she’s down again until 6:30/7am. The other morning she was down till 8am!
Eating: Still on the boob juice. The doc gave us clearance to try cereal but I’ve not gotten my butt around to buying some. At this point it’s just to get used to taking in food with a spoon so I’m not rushing into it like I did with Noah. I realize now that bottles are sooooooo much easier than solids.
Sizes: I bumped her up the 3-6 month stuff mostly so I can get some use out of it but also because in certain brands she’s outgrown the smaller stuff. We still have Carters 3’s running around in the mix too. The onesie in her pic is a Gerber 3-6 mo.
Milestones:She’s getting really strong. As long as I’m there for balance she’ll sit on her own for a min or two. Her head control is great. Still working on rolling over with any consistency. She’s started to babble more too.
Adventures:Nothing big this month really. She got her shots with only a few seconds of crying. Otherwise we had a quiet month in preparation for a busy holiday.

Oct 312012

Our little Lia is 3 months already! I can’t believe it! I’m back to work, she’s in daycare and we’re settling in to a comfortable, if not exhausting, pattern:) I have a day in the life post in progress so that you all can see how we function. Pretty much every min is filled with something.

On the Lia front, she was baptized this month and started daycare. Both of which she handled like a champ. Day 1 of daycare was rough but it got better as we went along. New environment, sounds, smells etc…it was hard for her at first. She’s had an off and on stuffy nose that only seems to manifest itself in the middle of the night so we’ve had a few nights of sleeping upright in a chair (which is much more comfortable now that I found my neck pillow).

She still as smiley as ever and I think I even heard a giggle yesterday as I was changing her diaper. Her face just lights up when DH or I enter the room. I love it. She also loves loves loves her big brother. It’s all smiles when it comes to him and he eats it up! If I can ever figure out how to get my phone to dock with my computer again I’ll have to pull the vids and share. It’s freakin adorable and just melts my heart. Most days I can’t believe they’re both mine:)

Weight: No dr’s appt this month so nothing official but she’s starting to work her way out of the Carters size 3 clothes so I’m betting she’s pushing 12 lbs. I’ll weigh her when we get home tonight.
Length: Again, no dr’s appt so we’ll see next month.
Sleep:Since she started daycare she’s sleeping from 7/7:30 until 4/5 or so which is great. Poor kid is just so tired when she gets home but you’d never know it, she’s still all smiles. On the weekends she’ll generally give us one good nap during the day but only if we’re out and about. Otherwise it’s an hour here, 30 min there. In between she’s pretty happy tho.
Eating: She’s still exclusively breastfed. She gets bottles of pumped milk during the day and nurses in the evening/over night. She has no problem switching back and forth except for when my supply is low in the evening then she gets pissed but we work thru it. She’s eating ever 2-3 hours except at night.
Sizes: Carters size 3 and most 0-3 in other sizes. We’re getting to the end of those though. She’s getting too long for them.
Milestones:If you put her on her tummy she’ll fall/roll to her back. I don’t think it’s deliberate yet though. It’s more like she’s cheezed off because she’s on her tummy and flails until she makes it to her back…
Adventures:Well, she’s lived thru a hurricane:) We all camped out in one room while Sandy did her worst. Thankfully she (Lia) was none the wiser. Also, she was baptized on Oct 21. She slept thru that whole ordeal too…

Sep 302012

Another month in the books and our little Lia is growing so fast! I love looking back to my posts about Noah around this time and comparing them. So many similarities yet so so different. Lia’s still a pretty easy baby. She cries when she’s hungry or over tired and that’s about it. Thankfully she’s pretty good at self soothing so we can put her down drowsy and she works her way to sleep (albiet a little loud and grunty but she does it on her own). Anyways…stats..

Weight: 9lb 14oz
Length: 22.5 in
Sleep:She gave us 7.5 hours the other night but hasn’t done it since. The long stretch is still 5 – 6 hours or so then another 3 – 4 hours. There’s a long stretch during the day too generally in the AM. Then she spend most of the afternoon/evening up with just a few small cat naps here and there.
Eating: The boobies are still going strong. I have quite a bit frozen for when I go back to work but hopefully I won’t have to dive into it right away. She eats every 3 hours most of the day and then clusters in the evenings.
Sizes: I’ve put away most of her newborn sleepers since she’s too long for them. The pants hang on as capris and her shirts still fit. I have washed and started using all of her 0-3 and 3 month stuff. Some is still a bit big but we make it work. I’ve retired the 4 Lil Joey all in one diapers but am still using her newborn covers as well as the size one covers.
Milestones:She’s all smiles and coos now, I love it! Plus she’s holding her head up really well. The doc was impressed at her appointment. Her brother was the same way so I’m not surprised I have strong little kids:)
Adventures:Made our first drive to Pittsburgh and it actually went smoother than I thought. I 30 min stop mid way to eat (for all of us) and we were on our way again. We even managed to get out (mom and dad only) and left grammy and papa in charge.

I did her 2 month pics today and you can see them below. She’s so alert! I need to do a side by side with her and Noah to see the difference.

Sep 012012

We’ve made it to one month! I’m sure I’ll say this every time but wow has the time gone by quickly. I’m down to 6 weeks left on my leave and she’s a whole month old. Before I know it, she’ll be pushing 3 months and I’ll be heading back to work:(

She’s a great little girl. A good eater and relatively content at other times. She has her moments but she’s quickly consoled.

Weight: 8lb 2oz
Length: 21 in
Sleep:Nothing consistent yet. Generally she’ll give us one 5 hour stretch (from 7-8ish to 12-1 ish). Then from there it’s every 3 hours or so until we all wake up. Unless you look at last night where she was up every hour and a half or so. Someone was hungry I guess.
Eating: She’s still exclusively breastfed and eating every 2 hours during the day with a block of cluster feeding in the evening before bed. I’ve been able to pump after she eats and now have over 100oz of milk in the freezer! I’m well on my way to taking over the freezer.
Sizes: Still in newborn clothes and diapers. I have a few newborn all in one diapers and the rest are prefolds with covers. I’ve been using disposables at night but that’s about it. Yay for cloth diapers!
Milestones:Not much yet. She’s getting really good with holding her head up though.
Adventures:I try to get out of the house at least once a day. Sometimes we just walk around the neighborhood others we head to the mall. I’ve taken her down to where I work too and just hung out in the park watching the kids play in the water.

Anyways, here are the pics:)

Aug 082012

I started this prior to Lia’s birth but never got a chance to finish it:) As with most things these days, we’re a little late:) )

Gosh, so much has changed with Noah since my last update. I feel like he’s made huge strides in the last few months with his language and motor skills. Looking at him at 2 and now and there’s such a huge difference. He talks in full sentences now and really is starting to comprehend situations and apply past knowledge to them. He busts out with things like “i’m going to mow the lawn with my head phones on” in this middle of dinner. Or he see’s an object (like a boat) and talks about how he rode on a boat when he was little and the horn was loud. He jabbers non stop. Most of the time it makes sense but others it’s just a collection of words and phrases.

My favorite part is when he looks up and says “good job mommy” when I’ve done something to help him. The other day he added “I’m proud of you!”. I’m happy to know that he hears us when we tell him that and actually understands when to use it (well, for the most part).

He sings all the time. If it’s not a song he knows from school (hokey pokey, old mc donald, etc) he’s making them up as he goes and including situational events in them. As time goes on you can understand more and more of the song. He’ll even dance when it’s warranted. The guitar and piano are still favorites (and I need to get him new strings for the guitar).

He’s been regressing a little on the sleep – he needs one of us there to fall asleep these days and naps are a challenge if we don’t hit it just right but overall he’s not doing too bad. It took us awhile to get back to normal after the interruption/irregularity we faced after the storm at the start of July. So, he’s still shifting between an 8:30 and 9:30 bed time. He’s generally up between 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning and napping 2 hours a day (sometimes three on the weekends when we can actually get him down). He woke up today and said “I sleep good mommy”….so funny.

Last time I got him to open his mouth wide enough I think I saw part of his 2 year molars in there so they came in at some point and we didn’t notice (probably one of his bad sleep months). I dont think they’re all in yet so I expect more drama to come but for now he’s done pretty well with it.

He’s 100% potty trained during the day (excepts naps still). The over night stuff will come in time I’m sure. He does get up sometimes to go but not consistently. I figure he’ll get there at some point. His day time potty training was early so I don’t mind using pull ups at night (although, now I have a ton of day time pull ups that won’t work for night time so I’m trying to figure out what to do with them…I guess we’ll just go thru them every slowly. He’s more prone to accidents when he has a pull up on).

I know I’m probably biased but he’s just so darn smart! He knows his alphabet, colors, numbers to 10 (to 20 with help) in Spanish and English and has memorized many of his books (he’ll finish my sentences or recite the book back to me). He has an incredible memory and loves to play memory matching games (we have a cool Melissa and Doug toy that has windows you can open to reveal shapes and stuff to match). I watch him build castles and trains out of his blocks with little help from us and he’s even starting to play pretend with his toys.

Anywho, enough gushing. I’ve been trying to get some more updated pics of him. I really wanted to do a formal photo shoot but just ran out of time before Lia arrived. Perhaps we’ll do a park session one of these upcoming weekends. For now, here’s what I’ve managed to gather up:)

Feb 022012

(i promised him I’d get this out before he turned 2….we’re getting close though!)

Well, you finally did it. You climbed over your crib rail and let yourself out of bed. We’ve spent the last few weeks trying various things to keep you in. A sleep sack worked for one night and then you figured that out too. Now it’s hit or miss on if you’ll get out or not. The gate is up so you can’t wander but we need to find a better solution soon, i’m nervous about you getting in and out by yourself.

You always tell us it’s “cold outside” in reference to anything cold or outside but not always necessarily together. Like, you’ll grab daddy’s face after he comes in from outside and say “cold outside” or you’ll grab your milk and say “cold outside”…doesn’t matter. Any reference to cold is appended with “outside”. I love it!

You’re asserting your independence more and more. Most days you have to pick out your own clothes. You strip off everything I pick out and insist on doing yourself so I’ve kind of given up. You even wore PJ’s to school today because it wasn’t worth the fight. Dinner time is much of the same. You have to do it yourself or ask for help. If I offer or try to do it for you all hell breaks loose. It’s so cute when you ask for help though…you look up and say “hep mommy” and then I melt.

I plopped you on the scale the other day (after you brought it out to me) and you were 28 lbs. Then I managed to get you to stand still long enough to get a height. 34 inches…almost a full yard!!! We’ll find out at your dr’s appt next month where that puts you. I’ve moved you over to 24/2T clothes for the most part although you still wear some of your 18mo PJ’s.

Lastly, your temper has arrived. I’m attributing it to the early arrivals of the terrible 2’s or possibly the sleep issues we’ve been fighting but man – you can be sweet as pie one second and the next a raging ball of anger hitting and throwing and just yelling like some’s stole your favorite toy. There’s no rhyme or reason most times. Sometimes it’s because I did something that you wanted to do yourself (like open your yougurt) or we had to take a non-permitted object out of your hands (like the screwdriver or the sharpie marker that I really need to remember to take out of the drawer you can reach). Sometimes it’s becuase Macie looks at you cross eyed…or uses her jedi mind tricks to make you think she’s going to steal a toy. I don’t know why most times and often times a modified time out is the only fix (or a bottle of milk, which seems to cure alot). Your MeeMa would say that it’s payback for all the tantrums I threw as a kid (apparently I could throw a fit with the best of them) and perhaps she’s right. Wow, I can totally feel her pain now.

In any case, you always make it better you saying “sorry mommy” (or whatever object you threw) and petting my face (or the object you tossed:) ). Being your mommy is challenging alot of the time but so incredibly worth it.

(and since I’ve been seriously slacking on the photos, here’s a video of Noah’s new trick. I have no idea who taught him this).

Jan 132012

so many weeks late!

He’s just a huge bag of tricks these days (and feels like a huge sack of bricks when you pick him up…).
– He’s talking more, stringing two words together (sometimes three). I love hearing “I love you mommy” or “mommy daddy I you”…
– He’s climbing all over everything and is much more confident on the stairs. Most days he goes up with out holding on to anything and can go down a few steps without help as well.
– He can jump off the ground and both feet clear. He’s getting more and more height as the month wears on. He loves to jump jump jump…
– I stuck him on the scale this AM and it said he was 28lbs so he seems to be holding stead (although it doesnt feel like it).
– I still can’t/haven’t nailed him down to get a height. I guess we’ll just have to wait until his two year appt next month.
– Gosh, this is what I get for not doing these on time…i’m merging this month and last month:) oh well..

I’ve already started thinking about his 2 year party. I swore to myself we’d keep it family and close friends but as I assemble the guest list it just keeps growing. I can’t help myself. I just need a theme now…Thomas is so over done but he loves it so much…

Nov 272011

and just like that we’re another month closer to being a 2 year old (and weeks late on his update). The terrible twos have started to rear their ugly head as Noah tries to assert his independence with “no” or “noah” when he wants to do it himself. Most of the time it’s cute…others? Not so much. Timeout is slowly gaining popularity in our house.

It’s been a busy month with hikes, trips to park, driving to see friends. You name it and we’ve probably done it or thought about doing it this month. In all the craziness and driving we’ve found that stickers can keep a babe occupied for hours as will my phone with either movies of him on it or toddler lock…

Stats for this month:
– 26ish lbs (he won’t stand still)
– 32ish inches (again, this standing still thing is an issue)
– lots of words and babbling. He’s starting to string two or three together…like bye bye doggie, what’s that? etc… He’s constantly babbling and more and more I’m hearing real words in his babbling.

This kid is non stop! From the time he wakes up until he naps he’s just one big ball of motion. It’s exhausting but so amazing. I just love his sweet little smile or the way he says “mama” when he wants something (followed usually by “peese” or “now!”)…

There’s no movement on the potty front, he still likes to sit on it but nothing has happened yet (well, there was one fluke that we made a big deal of but he was so confused…it hasnt happened since:)). It’s still early and I’m letting him lead for now we go with it as he shows interest.

Anywho…I’d promise more posts but life has been crazy lately. Perhaps I’ll find some time to queue a few up:)

So I’m a few weeks late on this. If it means anything I created the post on the 23rd…it just took till now to fill it out:)

He’s growing by leaps and bounds, with each passing day I see more comprehension and more communication from him. He’s 26lbs and 34 inches tall and he looks like a tall skinny little boy it’s so crazy! I’ve noticed that while he’s really verbal, he doesn’t really say much. Just lots of babbling with occasional comprehensible word thrown in. He can usually get his point across. I’m not worried mostly because his spatial and reason comprehension is very good. You just watch as the little wheels turn in his head as he figures out how to undo the buckles or latches on the toys he has or works thru the puzzle to put the pieces in the right spots.

Coloring is a favorite past time as is pushing things over to whatever he can’t reach and then climbing up. He knows his animal sounds and most of his body parts and can point out most of the objects in his 100 words book when you ask what things are. I can even get him to participate in the “head, shoulders, knees, and toes” song which is soo much fun.

He’s a hugger and a kisser (but only when he feels like it) and he’s spontaneously affectionate (melts my heart when he runs over and hugs my leg and says i wuv oooo!). His mood is almost always happy except on the days where he gets up on the wrong side of the bed, then it’s just miserable all day. I never look forward to nap and bed time more than those days.

This past month we spent a week a the beach (as you’ll see in upcoming posts if I ever get to write them) and after a quick introduction to sand he was all about walking around and digging. I think he favorite part was the bike rides. He loves that little trailer.

Anywho…I can’t believe we’re in the last few months before he turns 2! Where does the time fly!

Holy moly…He’s a year and a half old now. And to celebrate the occasion, he cut a new tooth, contracted croup and survived an earthquake. Boy knows how to do it right!!

Stats
26lbs (they weighed him on the big boy scale today!)
? inches tall. I can’t get him to stand still long enough.

Language
He’s got too many words to type out. He’ll mimic everything you ask him too and he’s started to pair up sounds with animals and objects. He’ll ask to color with crayons, for you to sit next to him, and he’s good with answering with an affirmative yes or adamant NO!. He babbles and has full conversations with himself and i swear I hear him singing some times.

Motor Skills:
Running is his preferred mode of transportation, climbing is the next (although that’s not necessarily transportation, just havoc causing). He stacks blocks like a champ now and has mastered most of his toys. You’ll find him dancing when there’s music and spinning circles till he’s dizzy (soo funny). Hand him a wooden spoon and a pot lid and you have hours of entertainment. Loud entertainment but entertainment none the less.

Potty Dealings:
He’s interested in the potty and all that is involved and will sit on the seat but doesn’t quite get what to do when he’s up there. I put him on in the evenings before his bath just to get him used to it.

Sleeping/Eating:
He sleeps pretty well when he’s not cutting a tooth or has croup:) Still 7/7:30 – 6:30-7am. They still give him a 2.5 hr nap at daycare and that seems to work out really well. Eating on the other hand is hit or miss. You can always convince him to eat a waffle or a banana but outside of that we just have to try until something sticks. I know he won’t starve but sometimes I worry.

Anywho…enough blabbing, on to the pics. This shoot was harder than I thought it would be. I really needed someone else to help wrangle him while I got the shot ready. My keys helped some but in the end it was a pretty quick shoot.

Just a few days late here:) It’s been super busy.

I just love this age with Noah because he’s such a little person with his own wants/needs and opinions. If he has a choice he’s outside, he wants to sit at the big table, he wants to feed himself etc. He’s understanding more and more and follows simple directions pretty well. He’ll mimic what we ask him to say and has been associating things more and more.

The other day I got a real “mama” from him in reference to me! Now he does it all the time and it love love love it! Such a sweet sound from him little mouth.

Eating is still a challenge. One day he’ll eat something the next he won’t so you never know. We have found a few tricks that work most of the time:
1. give him a fork – he loves to fork his own food
2. saddle him up to the table like a big boy – I took the tray off his high chair so now he can sit at the table or the counter like the rest of us and that seems to make him happy.
3. watch it with the snacks – I noticed that he was snacking alot. He’d grab his snack trap or ask for something and we’d just give it to him. Now I’m watching more closely and he’s eating normal meals better because he’s actually hungry when I make things.

Words:
in addition to last months we’ve added car, lellow (yellow), hat, Gabo (friend at school), lala (another friend at school), bano (potty in spanish), please, noooooo!, color, bye, backyard, and lots of affirmative grunts (typical boy) Plus he’ll mimic just about anything you ask him to.

fine motor:
– climbing! OMG this kid climbs now.
– running full steam ahead
– This kids grasp on cause and effect is amazing. He knows that you need to turn the hose on for water, that if he pushes that button something happens etc.

Favorites:
– balls
– blankie
– bottles
– water (if it’s a dirty mud puddle even better!)

He’s 25lbs or so and I’m not sure how tall (next month is his dr’s appt). He’s solidly in 18 mo clothes and wears size 5 shoe (although i can only get sandals on him since his little feet are so fat).

I can’t believe he’s going to be a whole year and a half old next month!

Well, the parrot phase has started! He’ll repeat most of what you say, or at least try. He’s added a few more words to his arsenal and a few more tricks to his bag. Ever the performer he waves and says hi to just about everyone and everything and still blows kisses to the world.

He’s at a point where you can see the little wheels of his brain turning and you can generally show him something once and he can repeat. I asked him to put the tupperware away in the drawer and he complied (i even did it in english). The best trick was when he opened the snack drawer, took out some mangos and closed the drawer (and proceeded to walk around the house with them for a while). I asked him to put them back and he walks over to the drawer, opens the one below it (where the pots are), realizes that it’s not the right drawer and closes it. Then he opens the right drawer, finds an empty spot to put his mangos down and closes the drawer. I just stood there in amazement.

He’s around 25 lbs and we just finished our umpteenth round of antibiotics for an ear infection. Summer can’t come fast enough, I want a month free of ear infections or pneumonia! I have to try to get him to stand still long enough to get his height, that’s easier said than done. All this kid does is move and if he’s not outside he’s mad as a hornet (rain or shine).

In addition to the words from last month he’s added mama (in reference to me), nana (banana), da-do (in reference to Macie), I’ve heard agua over and over again, and quack quack (duck). He says bottle and thank you pretty clearly now too.

Best part of my day is when he sees me when DH brings him home. Sometimes they beat me home and he comes running, other times I’m in side already and he come hunting me with a big ole smile on his face.

So we’re already to 15 months! He seems more and more like a little boy every day, it’s disturbing! My baby is disappearing before my eyes:( He’s independent and curious but still likes to check in periodically when he’s playing, just to make sure we’re still there (I secretly love that part, she snuggles in real quick to show that he still needs me).

He follows directions very well and even crawls up the stairs at daycare and gets his shoes for us. He likes to grab them and then sit in your lap to let you put them on. All the while chanting “shooooos…shoooooos” (which sounds like his “joooce” or Juice in Noah speak). He’ll put things away when you ask and hand stuff over when he knows he’s not allowed to have it (the channel changers for example).

We’ve been sick on and off unfortunately and I’m very much looking forward to the end of cold and flu season. I’m tired of this two weeks on/two weeks off game. We’re on antibiotics for something or other at least half the month. Last time it was pneumonia and now we’re fighting an ear infection (number 4 or 5 i think).

He’s has 10 or 12 words (shoes, juice, cheese, papa, daddy, mama, uhoh, ball, bubbles, book, hello/hi, thank you, more/mas) and I swear I heard doggie the other day. Daycare says he also says water and milk in Spanish as well as cracker although I’ve never heard them myself. Oh, and just this morning I heard “poopy”…lovely!

He can tell you where is belly, head, feet and tongue are as well as “shush” you when you’re loud. He signs “more”, “doggie”, and “all done” pretty consistently and I’m working on others (help and hurt).

He’s sleeping from 7ish to 7ish pretty consistently now. Sometimes he’ll pop up around 5am but I usually hand him a small bottle with water in it and he’s back to sleep (this kid drinks a TON!). At his last dr’s appt he was 75/50/50 for height, weight, head circ although i didn’t get the actual numbers since I didn’t go (hubs did and he doesnt remember). I think he’s like 24lbs or so.

I did a quick photoshoot with him the other day to try out a new chair (well, old chair from my great uncle’s farm) and we only lasted a little bit (it was towards nap time) but we got a few nice pics out of it!

Time is flying and I keep thinking back to where we were last year at this time. I wonder if I’ll ever stop doing that.

14 months already! He’s turning into such a big boy, I can’t believe it!!

He’s really starting to develop a personality. He’s hilarious and he knows it:) He gets a real kick out of trying to get us to laugh. It’s such a beautiful sound! We had a few rough nights here and there as his 4 molars made their way thru his gums. They’re still coming but it looks like they’re most of the way broken thru. I’m not sure how much he weighs – probably 23.5lbs or 24lbs. I’ll have to check to see how tall he is next month. Not much else has changed – he’s eating solids all the time. Still gets at least a night time bottle and sometimes just a bottle of water in the AM (he seems to get thirsty around 4:30am…I hand him a bottle and he’s back to sleep right after he finishes it).

Anyways, this is all from memory:) Next month will be more detailed if I remember to do it:)
