So it’s wed night and I’m just now getting to sit down. Such is life these days. We’ve had an awesome few weeks here punctuated by an impromptu trip to the beach this last weekend to visit a few friends. DH was in a volleyball tournament in Seaside Heights (yes, Jersey Shore territory) and our friends are just across the bridge. We’ve been trying to get out to see them and due to sickness and traveling with a toddler and a dog, we just weren’t connecting. Thankfully when DH called at the last min, they are open and agreed to put up with us:) I was so excited (she’s 20 odd weeks pregnant and I love me some baby bump:) Plus they’re just the most adorable couple!)

Saturday was spent at the tournament getting sun burned and seeing famous pro volleyball players. Sunday was spent at Island State Beach Park which was AMAZING! We loaded up our friends truck with 4 adults, 1 dog and one toddler in a carseat (rear facing even!) and went for a drive on the beach. I have to say, these guys know how to do it right! They had everything you could want for when relaxing on the beach! Prego mamma had a nice reclining chair with an umbrella. Macie had a nice long lead so that she could roam but not get lost (we let her off for a while to go swimming in the surf). We had snacks and drinks and even a portable potty (you’re out in the middle of a remote beach, there’s not restroom outside of going in the ocean. A portable potty, even if it’s just a bucket with a privacy tent, is a welcome feature)! There was a nice breeze blowing and it was clear and blue. While I didn’t exactly get to sit and relax since Noah was not a fan of the sand and just wanted to be held but that didn’t matter, I could totally spend every free weekend like that. Noah did finally warm up to the sand (but only with his shoes on) so my arms got a rest eventually.

(excuse the conflicting watermarks, i’m too lazy to fix them:) )

I actually found another set of pics when getting these ready that I’ll share tomorrow. For now it’s bed time:)

When I told my friends about how easy CD’ing was, many of them replied “yea, but you work at home…you can do the wash whenever” and that was true. Getting those diapes washed was so easy because I could walk by the laundry room and turn on the various cycles throughout my day. By the end of the day I’d have freshly clean and dried diapes all ready for the next day. I always thought that we’d have to alter our routine if I ever went back into an office work situation but never really worried about it because I never thought I’d be back there while Noah was still in diapers. I was wrong.

I’ve been commuting now for 6 weeks and while we’re still finding balance in everything else, I’ve managed to get CD wash routine that still works for us. We’re doing them every other night like we did before but it takes until the next evening to get things done (which is fine for us). So, after Noah’s down I’ll run the cold rinse and then before bed I’ll start the hot wash. Next morning before I head out the door I’ll run the second rinse and I’ll start the drying when I get home from work. This means I often times pack his daycare bag in the AM but I’ve found that we’re waking up earlier anyways so I always have time.

So, there you have it! I’m not super mom and I certainly don’t have everything figured out but I have figured out a way to make CD’ing work even when I’m not working out of my house.

Well, the parrot phase has started! He’ll repeat most of what you say, or at least try. He’s added a few more words to his arsenal and a few more tricks to his bag. Ever the performer he waves and says hi to just about everyone and everything and still blows kisses to the world.

He’s at a point where you can see the little wheels of his brain turning and you can generally show him something once and he can repeat. I asked him to put the tupperware away in the drawer and he complied (i even did it in english). The best trick was when he opened the snack drawer, took out some mangos and closed the drawer (and proceeded to walk around the house with them for a while). I asked him to put them back and he walks over to the drawer, opens the one below it (where the pots are), realizes that it’s not the right drawer and closes it. Then he opens the right drawer, finds an empty spot to put his mangos down and closes the drawer. I just stood there in amazement.

He’s around 25 lbs and we just finished our umpteenth round of antibiotics for an ear infection. Summer can’t come fast enough, I want a month free of ear infections or pneumonia! I have to try to get him to stand still long enough to get his height, that’s easier said than done. All this kid does is move and if he’s not outside he’s mad as a hornet (rain or shine).

In addition to the words from last month he’s added mama (in reference to me), nana (banana), da-do (in reference to Macie), I’ve heard agua over and over again, and quack quack (duck). He says bottle and thank you pretty clearly now too.

Best part of my day is when he sees me when DH brings him home. Sometimes they beat me home and he comes running, other times I’m in side already and he come hunting me with a big ole smile on his face.

Today daddy takes one step closer to his mid thirties hehe…

Happy birthday to the worlds best daddy!!

Yes, those are Noah’s feet above daddy’s head! DH has him by the hips and was doing a few tricep dips, who needs a gym when you have a 25lb toddler! (so totally kidding about the tricep dips, Noah and daddy play this game all the time, he loves it!)

So, awhile back on Facebook I saw one of my highschool friends post about how amazing Kale chips were. I was intrigued and had been dying to try them out but could never find Kale in my store. It doesn’t help that I had no idea what kale looked like – even today, I was looking it up on my phone and comparing the pictures from El Google to make sure I had the right stuff. Anyways, I digress. I finally was able to find some kale and had the time to try it. I’m not disappointed! The recipe was super easy and quick and the “chips” are actually really tasty! I wonder if you can OD on these things!

You can alter the seasoning to taste, I used garlic and parmesan on one set and some Penzey’s spice mix I had on the other (Northwood seasoning I think). I definitely like the parmesan ones best (of course, I love cheese!).

(excuse the cell phone pics, that’s the only camera that had any batteries at the time)

Raw Curly Kale

Cut the woody center out and chop into bit sized pieces. Put on a baking sheet, drizzle in EVOO and season as you see fit.

Baked kale chips…

Now, getting the right baking time can be tricky. To little and you get limp kale, too much and it tastes burnt. In my batch I had all three – perfect, burnt, and limp. I think because I wasn’t super careful about my sizes.

In any case, this was an awesome experiment that I’ll certainly try again (I better, I still have 1lb of Kale to cook..haha).

What’s your favorite healthy snack?

There are lot of things daddys are good for…

For taking a walk any time of year…

For showing us how to blow bubbles in the pool

For catching a few extra zzzz’s with (and for sharing his pillow)

For being our horsey and lifting us up so we can see

For introducing us to the wonders of bubbles in the air

For lending us a shoulder to lay on when we’re tired

For sharing their love of being outside and taking us on hikes

Truth be told daddies are good for lots more:
wiping tears
sharing food
hugs
kisses
fixing our boo boos
teaching us how to be good
teaching us what is bad
staying up those late nights when we’re sick
teaching us how to tie our shoes
daddies are good at lots of other things too
but what do fathers do best of all? Love us of course!

I found this one while going thru some unprocessed pics and I love it! Uncle J makes an effort every time we’re home to come out to see Noah (even when I don’t tell him until way late:) ) and we so appreciate it! I grew up with my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents close in proximity to each other so we were always able to see them on a regular basis and it’s important to me that Noah has that experience too (which was reason number 1 we moved back from the west coast)

Still no rhythm over here yet and I have lots of pics to share from this past weekend but I’ve been falling asleep every night before 10:00pm (and then getting up with Noah at all hours..) so pictures will have to wait:) But, while browsing my phone I found lots of pics of my outfits from the week so I decided to participate in Lindsey’s WIWW link up!! Taking the easy way out – no editing for these babies:)

I will confess that these are not all from this week. They’re a compilation of the last few but you can assume every weekday it’s something similar. We have a fairly formal environment here at the office so no jeans – even on fridays (okay, that’s a bit of a lie, you can wear jeans but my consulting company strongly advises against it, anywhoo…)

Outfit 1

Funny part about this outfit is that I had to run to Victoria Secret to get a slip because my tights kept sticking…love that I work in a building that is walking distance to one!

(i really did start this on Monday…it only took till wed to finish it:)

I really love weekends with no plans! Friday night, after recognizing our freedom, we decided to spend Saturday hiking and just hanging around. The weather was amazing and we had a newly finish pergola to break in! Sunday was dedicated to some yard work and making momma pretty (I badly needed a hair cut and highlight touch up)

Our first choice of hiking location was mobbed so we opted for one a bit further down the road and I’m so glad we did! We’ve always said, “I wonder what’s back there” or “We should hike that one day…” and just never did. Welp, cross that one off our list. It was a really nice hike, just long enough with a pretty waterfall and riverside beach towards the end. It was hilly enough to feel like you got a work out without getting all nasty or exhausted.

When we came back we decided that I would be fun to have some friends over for an impromptu BBQ. We spent the rest of the afternoon cooking and cleaning and getting ready for friends and spent our evening enjoying a good meal and conversation. The kiddos played too!

Sunday we did some yard work and hung out in the grass until it was time to eat dinner. Having cooked a ton the night prior, we opted for dinner out and were back in time to get Noah to bed almost on time:)

Unfortunately for me he decided that sleep was not something he was down with that night and I spent most of the night up and down with him finally allowing him to just play himself to sleep while I crashed on the floor of his nursery (it’s well baby proofed and he can’t get into anything that would hurt him). I shut out the lights while he played. Eventually he laid down next to me and we woke up 4 hours later at 8am (I was soooo late for work!).

You may have noticed a dearth in posts recently. I can lay out about 30 different excuses but truthfully it boils down to the fact that I’m having trouble finding balance. I never realized how much I did around the house while working at home. Conference calls were great for starting laundry, picking up around the house, getting dinner started etc. Now that I’m actually commuting more than 10 feet all those things are left to the evenings and weekends and I’ll tell ya, I’m having trouble keeping up.

Blogging will take a backseat for awhile until I find some sort of rhythm. I do have a few posts that I may get finished tonight and will schedule but then again I may also fall asleep before that happens…

Here’s some cute Noah to keep you entertained:

We had a great Saturday with an impromptu BBQ with a few friends and got the babes together to play. I’ll tell ya, I’ve read is many places that at this age they really only engage in parallel play but watching Noah and K I swear they were playing together. More than once they’d react to one another. Like Noah would push the buttons on the fridge toy and K would put the pieces together on the same toy at the same time (which would change the song that was playing). They also both had crackers and followed one another into the next room and promptly plopped down on the fireplace hearth to munch away. At another point one of them laid down and put their head on the pillow and the other followed suit laughing all the way. But none of these could top the duet on the piano…you have to see for yourself…

They went on like this for at least 10 min..we were dying laughing. They’d pound together, watch each other and pound alternatively, they’d reach over each other and play. Then, they both decided they were done and slid off the bench.

Perhaps this was still parallel play but there were glimpses of them actually playing together!!!!
