Okay, now that it looks like I’ll be going back to an office setting (don’t want to jinx it but I’ve got a good feeling about this week), I need to actually put forth some effort when it comes to getting dressed in the AM. DC is rather formal (so much more so than Cali) and being that I’ve worked at home for the last 4 years, gained 10 lbs, and what not, my wardrobe is just not up to snuff. Coupled with the fact that I’m waaay fashion challenged (seriously, get me on “What not to wear” please…I can take it!), I need help!

At this point in time I have one pair of pants that fit well and maybe two shirts. I’m going to see this one company for the 3rd and 4th times and am really struggling on finding something new to wear. I have a pair of basic pants (grey/black pinstrip), a plain black silk blouse, and cami paired with a pretty sweater that I can build on but not enough to make up even a weeks worth of outfits. Soo…I have two challenges for you guys.

1. From time to time (and probably more frequently in the next few weeks as I build a new wardrobe) I’ll post a specific piece of clothing that I’m struggling with and you can help me figure out what to pair and accessorize it with.
2. Who wants to put together a not super expensive, versatile, cute and stylish outfit (or two) using internet links??:) Think of me as your real live Barbie doll! Just keep in mind I’m short (5’2″ on a good day – 5’5″ in heels).

I don’t want to go too crazy now because I’m still losing weight and have some really cute things in the closet that sans these 10lbs would actually fit. But I do need something for in between. I’m not opposed to dresses or shopping at Target (or Marshalls or Ross:) ). I tend to gravitate to H&M, Gap, Banana Republic, and Express. Just to give you an idea.

So any ways, here’s the first piece of clothing that I’m struggling with. Right now I have it paired with a short sleeved black sweater that I just don’t love but it’ll do for now.

I need to take a pic of the actual skirt but since it’s 11:30pm and I’m dressed for bed, here’s the shape (trumpet or flared take your pick)…

But in kind of a tweedy pattern (black and white, wool). I love it but just can’t figure out what to put on top without it cutting me off totally! I want to look professional but not stuffy. Something cute and stylish. Help!??

I’ll be back in a few days asking for more advice…anything you can do to help in the mean time is appreciated:) Think of me as your real live Barbie and DC friends, anyone who wants to take me shopping I’m totally game for! I’ll try on anything!

Alright, 7 months in and we’re still CD’ing strong! It’s now just a fact of life and part of our routine just like bottle washing and eating are:) Even with the introduction of solids things are still swimming along. I thought I’d give a run down of our routine for those that may be interested…

7am – Good Morning Noah! First diaper change of the AM. Usually it’s just a wet (VERY WET) one that I wrap up and drop in the wet bag that hangs on his closet door knob. If he happens to have left me more then it’s a quick trip to the toilet to shake it off and into the wet bag it goes.

9am – Diaper change number 2. This one generally has more fun thing in it since we just had breakfast. Quick trip to the toilet to shake it off and into the wet bag it goes.

I send 5 diapers to daycare with this and they generally use 3 or 4 of them. They come home to me in a smaller wet bag. All they’re doing at daycare is taking the diaper off and wrapping it up then putting it in the wet bag. On wash days I just drop the bag in the wash room. On non wash days I take the bag upstairs and will deal with them later.

7pm – Bath time. Diaper comes off and goes into the wet bag.
7:30pm – Last diaper of the day. I usually use a BumGenius 3.0 triple stuffed (one regular liner and two newborn liners). This system will get him clear thru until 7am!

8:00 – Time to deal with the other diapers! On non wash nights I’ll go thru the wet bag and shake the poopy diapers off in the toilet. The wet diapers get transferred straight to the bag.

On wash nights I’ll start laundry around 8:30 or so. It’s pretty easy. Just make sure the velcro is adhered to the laundry tabs, shake the inserts out of the diaper (sometimes I have to pull a bit) and into the washer, run them thru a cold rinse then hot wash with detergent and an extra rinse. I’ll hang the shells out to dry on the drying rack in the sun room and toss the inserts in the dryer. Some days the inserts go on the drying rack too…just depends on what the weather is and what the temp of the sun room is.

Generally we go thru 6 or 7 diapers in a day. With the number of diapers we have, I can usually do one load every third night. In the AM I’ll grab everything and stuff them so they’re ready to be used! Our active stash consists of BG 3.0, BG 4.0, FuzziBunz, and Gerber prefolds and covers. I have a stash of fitteds but for some reason I just dont use them anymore. I think it’s because they get sooooo wet all over and his skin gets clammy if I don’t change it super frequently.

But that’s it! Simple huh?? Okay, it is a little work but really, in the scheme of things, knowing that I’m keeping that much out of the landfills makes it worth it (not to mention his bum is totally cute in the colors). I can’t wait till the BG 4.0 Artist Series comes out in Oct – I better have a job by then because I dont think I’ll be able to contain myself!

I wrote the first part of this yesterday after weighing myself in the am…things were a little different this AM but it’s still relevant

I’m struggling right now with the whole weight loss thing. I’ve hit a plateau and have not been able to break thru it (hence the lack of friday check ins). Partly because, even though I’m 10lbs heavier then I’d like to be, I seem to be carrying that 10lbs pretty well so on most days I’m okay with how I look. To be honest, even at 125lbs I have had my fair share of feeling frumpy days. At least now, I have a beautiful reason to snap me out of the frumpy zone – Noah. My body is what it is because of him and I’m okay with that. I would and will do it again in a heartbeat for another little gem like him!

Then there’s the other part of me though that nags me about becoming complacent in my new body…that this mentality is sure to add up over the years and before I know it I’m to a point where I’m not happy at all (and have a long way back to a happy weight). It’s just so easy to fall back into old habits. So I’m conflicted. So far complacency is winning….I really need to flip that around…

on to today…

Today’s weigh in was a bit better than the last few, although, up until yesterday it was the same as it’s been the last few weeks (133.6). This morning it was 132.5 – such a big swing is most certainly water weight but..it’s downward trending so I can only complain a little:) Hopefully I can keep with that trend. I dusted off my road bike and pumped up the tires and have every intention of using this time off to get some riding in….we’ll see if that happens….

Both of the jobs that I’m waiting on have gyms at their facility, is it bad that I may base my decision on which to go with on the quality of their gym??:)

PS. i realize that I meant to go on about eating right and healthy snacks and my own thoughts hijacked the post and had it’s own ideas. I guess I’ll talk about that later.

How amazing that we’re closer to his first birthday than his actual birth! He grows by leaps and bounds every day it seems.

There’s no dr’s appt this month (or even for the next few months aside from his flu shot next month) so I had to guess on the stats…but here are some other fun facts about Noah at 7 months…

– He’s a full time sitter now! I plop him down and find that he’s able to get over to his belly without bonking his head. He’s even able to pull him self back up from a semi reclined position.
– He pops up on his thighs and gets his tummy off the ground. He hasn’t quite pulled his knees under him but that doesn’t deter him…he just pushes with his arms and moves backwards!
– He prefer veggies over fruits but is slowly coming around on the fruit. Peaches and mangoes are still a no go…
– He has solids three times a day, 5 bottles as well – this little boy can eat!
– He’ll turn to you when you call his name now. Generally he’ll start clapping too!
– He loves to shake his toys (except when he knocks himself in the head!)
– He’ll take two solid naps, sometimes three a day. Generally he’s sleeping from 7pm to 4am or so, eating, then back down till 7am. He’s almost always up by 7am but he just lays in the crib and babbles until I go in to get him.
– He seems to prefer to feed himself but really doesn’t get it yet
– He claps!
– There’s a tooth there that I can feel but not see yet….
– He would prefer to sit up straight than laid back in his car seat. I think it’s about time to get him a new car seat!
– Based on our scale here at home he’s 21lbs and I swear he just had a growth spurt because none of his clothes fit anymore! We’re solidly into the 6-9 month and 9 month clothes!

I can’t believe I’m sharing this because the more people that enter the less chance I have of winning but I’m nice like that:) (plus I get an extra entry for doing it….I’m not totally unselfish haha…:))

My friend Emily is having an awesome give away over on her blog: Wife, check. Mom, Check, now what?. She’s a Gymboree-aholic and has some extra Gymbucks that will go to waste so she’s giving them away to one luck reader! Hope on over and check her out!

I love this time of year! The air is cooling off and has that smell to it, the pumpkin spice latte is back at Starbucks (not that I order them but it’s a signal of fall:) ) and ……it’s premier week! I don’t know about you all but I love premier week (and every week after that in the season). Thank goodness for DVR’s because some of my favorites collide time spots! For me it’s One Tree Hill, Greys, Glee, and Private Practice…what about you? What are the shows you just can’t miss??

Are revelations like these one:

Soap Operas actually look WORSE on HD channels! They were always total cheeze when I watched them in college (on a 13 inch mini TV) but wow, on a 40+ inch HD TV they actually look more cheezey…Thank goodness Days of our Lives is recorded in non HD:)

Oh, and really? The same actors are on Days that were there 8 years ago when I was in college – and they’ve changed very little! It took me all of about 10 min to get back in the story line! Haha….love trash TV!

One of these days I’ll break out of my lazy rut and actually write something of substance on this blog but for now I’m trying to bide my time with fun pics of Noah:) After all, this is his blog – I just hijack it from time to time to get my point across:)

I took these with the point and shoot one evening a few days ago before I fed him dinner. He likes to chill in his high chair while I’m preparing dinner or cleaning the kitchen. I can move him and keep him in my line of sight (and i’m in his which makes him happy).

We spent this past weekend basking in the AMAZING weather at the beach! The days were 72 degrees and sunny so if you were too cold in the shade, you just had to step a few feet into the sun! We spent a good part of the day on the beach. It was a bit of a different experience since DH was laid up with a sprained ankle and not able to play volley ball but it was still a good time (I got to play some ball for the first time in over a year…man do I suck at it!! haha.. I got drafted and traded all within about an hour…)

Noey even posed for a few pics! Sporting our friend Joyce’s hat….

Okay, now we’re really starting to feel like fall around here and this summer shape up has taken longer than I ever imagined it might – I think it’s time for a name change – Operation bye bye spare tire… the Pittsburgh Half Marathon is 246 days away:)

This week I finally (FINALLY) managed to make some quinona (twice!). It’s actually pretty good. I was making it with chicken stock and paired it with stronger tasting foods like a curry chicken and a pork tenderloin and it worked perfectly. DH even ate it with minimal complaining:) I drank more water than I had before but need to continue to do so. Lastly I went for a run two days in a row and started to feel that lower leg pain again so I need to start out slower and as soon as I’m gainfully employed again I’m going to pay a visit to a runners store to be fitted. I think the relaxation of the ligaments that happened during my pregnancy has affected the mechanics of my feet causing the pain ( i tried both my old shoes that never gave me problems before and my new shoes – no difference).

Getting out for a walk, ride, or run is more important now since I gave up my gym membership. I had them pause it for the time being but depending on where I get a job I may need to cancel it outright (some of the positions i’m looking at are more than 30 min from the gym). Anyways…on to the stats…

Next, Stats by the week:
Week 1 – 142lbs (7 weeks postpartum)
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.
Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)
Week 15.5 – 136.5 – taken on Monday (hence the .5 in 15.5 weeks) NOTE: this is on a new scale which disagrees with my old scale so we’re kind of resetting a bit.
Week 19 – 136.0
Week 22 – 133.6 – thank you comfort eating…
Week 23 – 133.4 – well…a little progress is something:)

and finally, the Goals this week are:
– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself
– walk with Noah every other evening

Someone needs to stop me…I just finished ironing and painting another 10 onesies. I also dyed 15 or so various colors to add some variety to my white. Fbook friends I’ve said this once but it bears repeating…you all better be having tons of babies because if these don’t sell at the fundraiser, you’re getting them for birthday and Christmas’s to come:) At least they’re cute right??

For the little girls I have the three little chicks and the ladybugs (and a few odds and ends). For the boys I have sailboats, rocket ships, and neckties (and a few odds and ends). My mom has a bunch of fully hand painted ones (one of a kind ones) and I’m sure there are other odds and ends floating around.

If you’re interested in any of them check us out on Sept 18 at the Nothing but Nets Fundraiser. Details at www.bethelumc.us. Otherwise, after the fundraiser I’ll put them up in our etsy shop where all the proceeds from the sale go to the Nothing but Nets organization.

He’s not super consistent but it’s still hilarious…he thinks it’s even funnier with food in his mouth while blowing raspberries. I have yet to capture that because well, I’m being covered in baby food from said raspberries:)

And yes, I’m playing lazy blogger these days by just posting pics and videos….there’s been movement on the job front which is fab! I should be gainfully employed in no time!

I just stumbled on a post by Meredith over at La Buena Vida that really spoke to me. My girlfriend Melissa has always spoke of positive parenting and using the words “no”, “don’t” and “stop” sparingly. The idea is that the less you use those words, the more impact they have on the child when you do actually need to use them. So you ask – what do you use in their place? Redirection! So, rather than saying “Stop jumping on the bed” you use redirection instead “Beds are for sleeping, please step down and help mommy with xyz…” or instead of “no running” use “Please walk while in this room”. Adding phrases like “You’re so smart, I just know you will follow this rule” or some other positive reinforcement can do wonders.

I know I want to try this with Noah and it’s not going to be easy to keep from just jump to “no” when he’s doing something wrong but I think with a little effort from the very beginning I could become very easy.

What other ideas have you all heard to enforce positive parenting??

So, I know I’ve been MIA…I managed to get the pics of the camera from this past weekend so we’re one step closer to a fun post with pics:) As for the shape up related news, this week has been a tough one. I’ve been doing a bit of comfort eating and my numbers reflect that. I’m thinking it’s mostly water weight because it took almost an hour this AM for the indentations on my legs from sitting on the afghan to go away.

I failed on the goals too…but I did get to the gym twice:) Anyways…enough excuses…back on the wagon next week (for as many times as i’ve fallen off you’d think I’d have more bruises…well, I guess the weight is enough of a reminder…)

Week 21 – 132.5 – okay, we’re on a roll here!
Week 22 – 133.6 – thank you comfort eating…

and finally, the Goals this week are:
– Stay on the water bandwagon…i have to consciously remind myself
– Finally try that power house grain Quinona! (yes, this is a repeat….it’s sitting on the counter reminding me every day)
– walk with Noah every other evening, work up to a light jog.

Now, a quick update on the job front. It’s been a busy week! I’ve had a number of phone screens that have led to two in person interviews scheduled for next week! I had a critique of my resume and have alot of work to do on it to improve it so I’ve been working thru that (I can never remember what I did when it comes to those things…ugh). I have been doing a bit of freelance writing for a friend of mine and may have some additional freelance stuff coming up to help fill the time (and the money gap). Aside from all that I’ve been getting my craft on daily! It’s been a nice change to be able to just sit down and sew for a few hours and not worry about work.

So, still excited about the opportunities ahead of me and can’t wait to see what pans out! Until then though, I’m enjoying my time off!

Sep 012010

So things have gone sideways here lately which is why I’ve been MIA. We were away for the weekend (and I have some great pics to share when I get a chance) but just prior to leaving I found out that I’d been laid off:( 7 years of service to them and all I get is “we’re sorry to have to do this but we’ll miss you”….oh well..on to bigger and better thing for sure.

And that brings me to my absence (and continued absence probably). You’d think since I have so much time on my hands I’d have all day to blog but searching for a job and tying up the loose ends of the job I left are rather time consuming. I’ve also picked up some freelance stuff thanks to a few friends so that’s keeping me busy. But, hopefully in the next few days/weeks I’ll have lots to share (when I find time to do it!)

For now however, I’ll be on and off….rest assured, Noey’s doing well…growing like a weed. I need to take some new pics of him to share…add that to my to do list:)
