So there’s been no change this week. I have started getting more h20 (about a Brita pitcher full every day) and I’ve been careful with what I eat but that’s only allowed me to maintain. I only managed to work out twice this week and it was just a quick run and a quick bike ride. Work is getting in the way of the gym right now. Hopefully that will stop and I can get back to it…

This coming week we’ll be sunning and funning at the beach and DH has designs on early morning runs with the pup in the sand so we’ll see what happens. We’re cooking at the house rather than eating out every night so that will help in controlling the calories. Being that I won’t be by a scale on Friday though, this post will be late next week (probably Sunday or Monday morning…) However, have no fear – I will post it at some point:)

Stats by the week:
Week 1 – 142lbs (7 weeks postpartum)
Week 2 – 138lbs – woohoo!
Week 4 – 140lbs – ouch…no excuses, I have a new workout regime and a new resolve for eating healthy…we should start seeing that number drop.
Week 6 – 139.5 – okay, .5 lbs! I attribute that to the fact that i’m putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat right??:)
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.
Week 10 – 134 – 1 lb…i’ll take it!
Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)
Week 14 – 132 – still not believing it but until i get a new scale, we’re going with it:)
Week 15.5 – 136.5 – taken on Monday (hence the .5 in 15.5 weeks) NOTE: this is on a new scale which disagrees with my old scale so we’re kind of resetting a bit.
Week 16 – 135.8 – if we look at Monday’s weight and today’s weight I’m doing good…almost a whole pound in 5 days
Week 17 – 135.8 – no change…hmph…

The Goal this week is to continue to try for more water and 3 morning runs on the beach.

Okay, on to making friends!

Hello to all you new folks! I hope you find something here that you’ll want to come back over and over again for! This blog was started to keep the fam up to date on my first pregnancy and has continued after my little Noah was born. Topics range from smitten momma ramblings to hard hitting pieces about 529 plans and the like (haha…hard hitting..maybe not but it’s fun to dream that I could actually write something that could be considered hard hitting) and has a smattering of photography (of my little man of course) thrown in for fun.

Me? I’m an almost a 30 something (gah!) working mamma who would love to ditch her mortgage in order to stay home with little man but sadly bought when the housing market was at its peak and probably couldn’t even break even in the sale. Some day I dream of leaving the corporate world to do something more creative – like photography or crocheting!:) But for now amuse myself with hobby photography and blogging.

Anywho…glad to e-meet you and I hope you leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

Later this fall my home church is holding a fundraiser for an organization called Nothing but Nets….

Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to raise awareness and funding to combat malaria, one of the largest killers of children in Africa. With a $10 contribution, Nothing But Nets provides individuals – from CEOs to youth, professional athletes to faith leaders – the opportunity to join the global fight against malaria by sending a net and saving a life. – Nothingbutnets.net

Anywho…the fundraiser consists of a bunch of booths with themes circling around the word “Nets”. IE: A Bassinet booth full of baby crafts, a Sermonet book we’re compiling and getting printed that is filled with faith devotions written by local clergy. And the list goes on.

I’ve offered up a few things for the bassinet booth including ribbon pacifier holders and custom painted onesies. Someone pointed me to a freezer paper stencil that I’ve been experimenting with and I’m really happy with the results. (but now I need to buy Noah some new white onesies since I used all of his to experiment with..haha).

Here’s my first few attempts. It works really well! Cutting the stencil is a PIA though – so I found a Cricut on Ebay for $75 and just had to have it (DH is gonna love this…we already need another room for all my crafty stuffs, the closet is overflowing). I’m just waiting for it to arrive so that I can try it out.

I’m thinking of setting up an Etsy shop to help augment the fundraiser and widen our audience (since it’s an on site thing and only those local to the church will be in attendance) where all the proceeds will go towards the fundraiser. Once I do (if I do) I’ll post a link here and you guys can spread the love:) It’s a good cause and I’ll be talking about it more as the fundraiser nears. (Those of you local to Lower Burrell that aren’t already involved thru my church but want to help in some way, let me know. I’ve got connections:) )

Why yes, yes it is – you gotta problem with that??

There’s a story behind this outfit thought. See, I have this wool soaker that I’ve been wanting to try but was not quiet sure how it worked. Yes yes, you put it over a fitted or prefold, I got that part…but since it is a great wicking layer, I don’t know if you should put a sleeper over it or let it stand alone. My experience from my skiing days leads me to believe that I could probably put something over it but that it may get wet so tonight is an experiment – woolie alone. And since I couldn’t put him in a sleeper and I couldn’t let him go naked I used the only long sleeved shirt I had – brown and blue stripes. Then, I noticed that his little legs would probably get cold since the soaker only came to his knees so on went the babylegs (yes, the green ones were the best option out of all the legs we have). Thankfully Noah’s not picky about his fashion sense because they all don’t match and actually clash quite horribly.

So, mommas that use wool…how do you do it? Wool alone with a shirt and babylegs? or under a bodysuit?

Two posts in one day…luck you!

When I saw the “sports” theme I thought I had just the picture but as I looked thru to find it, I found like 10 others that would have worked well too….such decisions. I decided on this one because it’s summer and I’m missing the beach.

This is hubsy getting ready to crush the ball…

Head on over to Trendy Treehouse to see more “sports” related photos:

A day or so late!:) I took his pictures on the right day but work was crazy and getting ready for the weekend put me off so I’m a little late on getting this posted.

I can’t believe we’re to 5 months already! I held a two week old that weighed more than Noah did at birth and it just blows me away how tiny he is. Noah is a moose compared to him – such amazing things happen in only 5 months!

Now he’s:
– rolling from back to belly and belly to back pretty easily. I never know what position I’m going to find him in when I get him in the morning.
– going to bed between 7 and 8 and generally waking up now around 6:45am. He spends the time just talking to him self in his crib. I usually go in around 7:00am and grab him and he’s all smiles waiting for me. I love it!
– still at one feeding per night. Generally between 2 and 4 somewhere but he stretched it to 5:00am the other day – that felt weird!
– weighs 16.8lbs or so. If he were in disposable diapers he’d be in 3’s (we used sposies while in California – no washing machine and a poo-fobic hubby:)). I’ve opened his one sized cloth diapers another row of snaps!
– all smiles and giggles! Strangers get a kick out of him because 98% of the time he’s putting on a show…screaming, talking, blowing bubbles, laughing.
– has tried rice, oatmeal, squash, bananas, and green beans. So far, while bananas seem to be his favorite, he’s taking everything equally. He even attacked a spoonful of green beans this AM – I was impressed! I had a big plan on when i was going to intro what but that’s gone out the window. I still stick with the 3 day rule but I’ve been bouncing between fruit and veggies depending on what I grab first.
– He’s mastered many of the toys on his Baby Einstein table as well as his car seat toy bar. It’s fun to watch him push buttons and react to when they start to sing. He’s still not super coordinated but you can tell his motions are getting more and more deliberate. If he’s tired he’s really uncoordinated but most of the time he’s got it down pretty good.
– seems to like sitting at the piano with mommy. We take about 30 min after he gets home from daycare to play. I’ll play a song and sing to him, he adds his two cents by screaming or whacking the keys. I really hope he has a ear for music – it’s a big part of my life and I want to share it with him (and of course we hope he’s athletic like his daddy too…he can be like Finn on Glee!)

He’s just an amazing little boy. Just when I thought I couldn’t love him any more, he smiles and my heart explodes with happiness:) Seriously, that smile could melt the coldest of hearts I’m positive!

We had a fabulous and fun filled weekend with lots of fun pics! The highlight was driving up to PA to meet our newest nephew! He’s 2 weeks old and about 9 lbs and OMG, not only is he gorgeous, he felt like nothing when I held him! I can’t remember Noah that small but I know for sure that he was. I managed to snag some quality snuggle time with the little man which was wonderful!

Later that day, while the mommies were inside staying cool, Grandpa Kloep had set up the baby pool and water gun stations for the boys to enjoy. And did they enjoy! Heck, I even dressed Noey and let him play in the pool for a bit. Unfortunately he’d just woken up from a nap (okay, maybe I woke him…I really wanted to see what he would do in the baby pool) and was a tad cranky and not very tolerant of all the screaming and splashing so we made it a quick dip.

The big boys ended their time in the sun with a few adult beverages and some relaxing under the sprinkler…

I love that my sister-in-law and her family have moved closer to the grandparents. Now when we go up, we can see everyone at one time and now I’ll get to see more of my awesome little nephews! I think DH is similarly pleased. He had so much fun playing with them and rough housing (and it didn’t hurt that they still fall for his magic tricks:) ). Watching him play and interact with them just melted my heart! Noey is a very fortunate little man to have a daddy like that. I can already see some of the silly things they’ll get in to together.

So, our last full day in the bay area was full of family and friends. We met up with our good friends and their little man for brunch and a quick walk around Sausalito in the sun. It was a BEAUTIFUL day on the bay but I ended up soooo sunburned…haha.

After that meeting, we headed back up to pick up DH’s uncle and head out to see the rest of the cousins. They have two little ones that we’ve never met – one just a few months younger than Noah and of course they’ve never met Noah. We spent the afternoon/evening talking, catching up and just generally enjoying the day. We tried some swimming but the pool was way way cold – I only got to Noah’s ankles before he freaked out and wailed.

Anywho….I was sad to see our trip end. It was nice being back in the city by the bay and visiting with family. If we had unlimited money we’d buy a house there and spend our summers there living it up!

And for everyone’s viewing pleasure…pictures!

Okay folks, we’re back in business…well, the fact that I’m home and near a scale that is….motivation and weight loss not so much…Ugh…I’m just having a hard time getting myself motivated to do anything (although I squeezed out a few squats and sit ups at 12:00 last night…but only after DH said my legs have come along way since I was pregnant and that he’d classify them as “hot” again:)). I’m trying to watch my calories but I’m soooo freaking hungry all the time that all I do is graze (no, i’m not pregnant!). I really need to get my butt back to the gym so that this grazing won’t affect me as much. For now I’m trying to sate my hunger with water (at least that’s been the MO the last two days) and just fight fight fight my will to munch.

So, the 132 from two weeks ago was a fluke…bad scale. My new scale (which agrees with the gym’s scale) puts me a bit heaver than I’d originally thought so we’re resetting a bit. I also shortened my stats list a bit and showed every two weeks (it was really getting long:)) In another month or so I’ll probably just show start and now….

The Goal this week is to continue to try for more water and get my butt back to the gym (or at least work in some activity to my day – we’re picking up the new bike trailer for Noah this weekend so maybe that means we can do a few after-work rides with him).

Okay, on to making friends!

Warning: Another very image heavy post….

Day two was another day full of walking around the city! This time, rather than wearing Noey (because it was stinkin hot in the city), he decided to push him up and down the hills in his stroller. I would have paid to see it…he found some of the steepest hills and decided to push Noah up them.

Today was spent walking to the Embarcadero and then back to the hotel. I came home to a crashed out daddy and Noey!

Jul 202010

Warning: VERY picture heavy post ahead…
So, while I went to work, Dad and Noah went for a trip around SF. We arrived early on Wed so they had a full day to have fun. He strapped Noah to him in the Ergo, stuffed the diaper bag and off they went. Here are a few pics from their day…

The wandered around Yerba Buena gardens, took the cable car up to Lombard, walked down to the ocean and then back around to Market. Dad attests that Noah did wonderfully and had a good time wandering the city.

So, when Noey was born I knew it wouldn’t be long before we needed to make a trip out to California due to my job. I say “we” because I don’t think I’d survive 5 whole days without his smiling face so I knew he’d have to come along and if he’s coming, DH was too because I’d have to work. Plus, who needs more of an excuse to fly out to San Francisco than a free hotel room and the opportunity to play tourist in the city.

So, this past week we loaded Noey up and took our first cross country trip. Here are a few things I learned when flying with a baby:

– You don’t need to buy them a seat. Children under a certain age (2?) can ride in your lap. With Noey being so little, there’s no way I was paying $300 for a seat for him:)
– If they do ride in your lap, make sure you tell the airline prior so they can add them to the reservation as an infant in the lap. You need to do this because he needs his own boarding card to get thru security and on to the airplane.
– We took his carseat and snap’n’go to the gate and gate checked it but really only used it as a luggage cart to carry my laptop, the camera bag, and his diaper bag because I wore him the whole time.
– Wearing him in the Ergo was easier and more comfortable for him. You have to take them out of the carseat and break everything down to get thru security and that would have been a nightmare if he was sleeping so having him in the Ergo meant he could sleep and hang out as we made our way thru security
– We swapped our over the shoulder diaper bag for a backpack (my day pack) because we already had two over the shoulder things and knowing DH would be walking around SF it was just easier – best choice ever!
– Lots of toys! Noah was pretty good for both flights but on the second one he got into a “must be entertained” mode that required all the toys we had avail (plus the help of the pretty ladies across the aisle).
– Pack more of everything than you’ll think you need…formula, clothes, diapers…and don’t count on a changing table in the airplane.
– Bottle, boob, or paci on the way up and down. It helps them equalize as the pressure changes.

Overall he did a great job! We had a few squawks on the landing on the way out and a bit of fussiness on the way back (the “entertain me” moment that necessitated the toys) but overall he did soo well! He even adjusted to the time change and back with great ease!

Now, having a baby in a hotel room is another story entirely. I was happy to check out of there and check in at hotel Uncle Ralph (DH’s Uncle) – the room was quiet and the food was fab!

Jul 192010

Okay, first things first. I weighed in this AM and no surprise, I’ve gained. A new scale, coupled with good eats and water retention from the salt in the good eats have put me up a few lbs. We stand at 136.5 today and I know a good part of that is water just based on how even the embroidery on Noey’s onesie left a deep impression in my skin.

I’m on glass number two of water today…hopefully I can keep this up and the water retention goes away.

Okay, now…lots of catching up to do. Over the next few days I’ll have posts about our trip adventures in San Fran (rather, Mark’s trip adventures – I was working). He and Noey had an awesome time from the looks of it!

He took his first plane ride and did awesome! Plus he adjusted to the time zone change pretty well (and seems to be adjusting back quite nicely).

Anywho…stay tuned…lots of pics and stories to follow!

Jul 182010

Wow! You guys actually read this thing:) I got a few comments asking where I’ve been. I promise, we’re back and will have some fun posts over the next few days. I was out in California for work and DH and Noey went along for the ride. They spent their days walking around San Fran while I toiled away at work…:)

I didn’t do the Friday weigh in because I wasn’t anywhere near a scale and in all honesty, with all the great eating I was doing, I was afraid of the scale. Maybe I’ll weigh in tomorrow and do an off cadence update..if you’re lucky!

For now, I need to unpack and maybe offload some pics (and tend to my sunburn!). I’ll be back in business tomorrow evening hopefully.

Jul 122010

I’m on a bit of a picture kick….this past weekend I managed to catch a few shots of daddy and Noey….

Jul 102010

So, Noey’s been a hungry hungry boy lately! At his 4 month appt we got the go ahead to start rice/oatmeal if we wanted and then see how it does from there. Well, he’s not a huge fan of rice/oatmeal but was bleeding us dry in formula costs so I decided to try squash. We’re doing veggies first because if he’s anything like his momma, he’d prefer the sweet over the savory so we’ll get him used to savory before the sweet:)

Here’s a video of his reaction to rice cereal:

And here’s a pic from our first tastes of squash…

So far it really doesn’t seem to be making a difference in his formula consumption….we’re still going thru it as fast as before but he seems to like the food so we’ll keep it up. Next week we’ll try sweet potatoes followed by green beans after that!:) Mmm…yum!

Jul 092010

It’s been a long 4 day week I’ll tell ya. Never thought Friday was going to get here. Work is picking up again (at my request, I was starting to get bored) and Noey’s on a 2am party kick lately. I’m thinking it’s a growth spurt because all that boy does right now is eat! I’ve started him on more solids just because he’s going to bleed us dry with the amt of formula he’s throwing back! Later I’ll post pics of his first tastes of squash (we’ve been doing rice and oatmeal here and there since the doc gave us the go ahead but he just doen’t like it – would you? it tastes like cardboard!). Anywho…the real point of the post is checking in and making friends. I’m stuck at 69 followers and while that’s a fun number and all, I’d like to see it grow just a little bit – we’re family friendly here!

First to the shape up check in – time to buy a new scale! I stepped on this this AM and it read 138! In complete disbelief I tried again – 135…I was shrinking before my very own eyes. I tried again and again 133.5, 132. And that’s where it stuck – 132…not quite believing it but I’ll take it:)

Week 7 – 137.5 – woohooo! Now, we fluctuated a bit this week but as of this AM this is where I’m at!!
Week 8 – 135 – Hallelujah! Real progress now! I don’t expect it will continue at this rate but we’ll see.
Week 9 – 135 – With no exercise all week I’ll take a steady number over what it could have been
Week 10 – 134 – 1 lb…i’ll take it!
Week 11 – 133.5 which is pretty good since I only made it to the gym once this week
Week 12 – 133 – time to get back to counting calories:)
Week 13 – 134.5 – Yikes…but it’s bound to happen!
Week 14 – 132 – still not believing it but until i get a new scale, we’re going with it:)

The Goal this week is to continue to try for more water and to also inject some more health veggies and fruits into the diet. I know I don’t get enough on a regular basis.

Okay, on to making friends! As I said above, we need to get past that 69 mark in my friend count please:) I’m trying a different bloggy hop not because they others were back but because I see the same folks over and over on there and I’d like to spread the love:)

Here’s the regular Friday Follow – Ian’s group!

Okay, since I started posting these here I’ll continue:) The challenge this week is either a Sepia photo or a selective color b&w photo. Since I’ve gotten away from doing selective color, I’ll use a sepia photo of Noey and his Great Grandma (although, this was a hard pick. I had a few that I really liked). I picked this because of the joy in her face in meeting him for the first time. 4 generations in one room that day…pretty amazing!

I think my sepia processing is a little different from a straight sepia but i really wanted some dimension to the picture and plain sepia was just too flat.

So this weekend was a full one for the little Kloeps! We made the trek north to visit with Gramma and Papa! So much fun was had that the weekend is easier retold in bullet form:

– After we sprung the dog from the vet (with a bag full of meds and some $600 odd dollars later) we took our first family trip in the new car. Macie was happy because she could stretch out in the back. We were happy because all of our stuff fit!

– Noah got to meet a few more of his cousins at my Aunt’s 3rd of July picnic! We’re about 1/2 of the way thru meeting all of the cousins. They’re spread out all over so it’s going to take a while to get to visit them all.

– Mommy managed to sneak away for an afternoon showing of Eclipse with Gramma. Shirtless Jacob was almost enough to convert me to “Team Jacob” but alas, true love holds on and I remain “Team Edward”. While Mommy and Gramma were out drooling, Daddy and Papa took turns entertaining Noey. They were both thankful when Gramma and I came home and took over:)

– We lit up Papa’s fire pit in the back yard and made some s’mores after Noey went to bed. Had a few fruity cocktails to go with it. S’mores and Guava/Mango juice really don’t jive. Milk is a better accompaniment.

– DH stopped at one of the many fireworks stands and picked us up a variety pack of fireworks. We spent the evening lighting them off and taking pictures (shown below)

– Noey got some quality time with gramma and papa. They were good grandparents and took turns loving on him:)

– Noey, DH, and I drove out to visit Abby, Patrick and JP (friends from college and their new little boy). He’s less than 24 hours younger than Noah! JP was overdue and Noey was early…funny to see them side by side.

– The trip home was interesting…..6 hours, 2 detours, and a screaming baby – ’nuff said! (but it was fun driving the new car!)

– What made the trip home worse (outside of all the traffic and crying child) is that Noey’s found his voice. Before this weekend his cries were quiet and tolerable. You moved quickly but it wasn’t an emergency. Well, all that is over. He’s found his volume button and cranked it all the way up! Cries, talking, screeches…you name it, he does it, at full volume! Think 4 months is too you to try to teach the “indoor voice” concept?:)

– We kind of knew this before but gramma reminded us of it…Noey hates – I stress HATES – when you blow on his belly…you get a 2 second WTF look and then he exercises those lungs of his. Only mommy can calm him down.

– My Google reader is at 815 unread posts – you all have been busy over the weekend!!

Think that’s it…well, there was more but it’s all details. Here are some pics for your patience:)

Well…it was bound to happen…I gained:( I could list every excuse in the book but bottom line, I didn’t achieve my goal this week. I only made two workouts and was pretty lazy with the calorie counting. I did drink more water but not as much as I wanted.

Sad part is, I knew all week that a gain was coming – i just wasn’t as motivated or diligent as I’ve been in the past. Chalk it up to being sick, having a sick dog, and a baby who didn’t want to sleep. Even my favorite boxing instructor asked where I’d been…

The goal this coming week is to get back track…the holiday is going to make this challenging. I must control myself at those BBQ’s where soda and chips abound! I need to find ways to work out even when I can’t make the gym…time to break out the Yoga and Pilates DVD’s again.

Okay, now to making new friends!!
